Not sure if any of you guys have heard of this, but it's a great insurance company for young drivers.

My brother has just passed his test and has been trying to find some sensible insurance quotes for 1.2/1.4l cars Ibiza/Punto/206/Polo etc. He passed his test about one month ago (he's 18), and everywhere is returning quotes upwards of £2700 TPFT, even with parents as named drivers. He has tried all the sites that get recommended on here as well and still nothing suitable. The quotes for barges are even higher unfortunately, so he's only looking for hatches.

I-Kube have beaten the cheapest price that he has found by £1250, they offer a large 40% discount to their policies if you don't drive between 11pm and 5am (this is checked by fitting a GPS box in the car). If you drive between this time you are charged a fee of £45 a time. Obviously this type of policy isn't suitable for everyone, but it looks to be a great starter policy for young drivers.

Just my thoughts on it :)

It's an ok idea, but...when I was 17 I wanted to go cinema and go see mates and would be driving late at night due to whatever we were doing, so it'd kill the point in getting a car for sociable reasons...but would be good for college/university/part time work for a new driver I guess.

Ouch, I tried one of these recently where you were charged by the mile for going out at those times and it came out at £400 more than my current policy. I have to say this one looks interesting but the blanket £45 per night charge could certainly make a tipe to the cinemas expensive!

And if you do want to drive after 11pm then just leave a very large sheet of lead on the dashboard. Simples :)

I probably racked up about a quater of my milage between those times in my first year, no thanks!

Yeah but what if you have an accident at night while out with your jammer. Would your insurance be void?

I wonder if they track all day or just at those times? If it's the just those times then what a good little jammer it would be!
