Steady on, it is 8 years and 4 months old ;)

Just down the road at Cadover Bridge.

Ah, well if it's that young, it looks like a complete dog!

I thought it looked familiar, used to use that road when we had an office in Tavistock. Will have to find an excuse to head out that way to figure out if my new baby goes around corners or not

I wasn't around when you bought the car and put this thread up initially, so I had a skim through the first few posts.

This bit caught my eye and made me smile:

The Climate Control is irritating, but probably becuase I just have not got used to it. I got in the car, and wanted it cold. But it was worm. So I set it to 16.5c, then it was too cold. Argghhghghg with the Mondeo I just turned it to cold and it was. This is exactly the same in every climate car I've ever driven so I guess I just need to learn how to use it.

And it made me remember that you nowadays swear by climate control. I also echo the same feelings whenever I drive a car with climate. I guess you must have gotten used to it ;) :D

Regarding the car itself, I am hugely impressed at how well you've looked after it - must be one of, if not the best condition E39 in the country surely :) Shows real dedication and just look at the results!

Lol well spotted Clown :D

I have to admit, it does work. But I can't help but adjust it when I want it hotter/cold.. The notion of setting it to 20C and leaving it all year round just doesn't sit right in my mind :D

It doesnt work for most people - when it's cold out I want it to be nice and warm in the car, when it's hot out I want it to be chilly :)

But climate control lets me choose the temperature when I get into the car and forget about it, that's the real benefit

You can have that with the BMW system - there is a little wheel which over-rides the climate for the two centre vents, so you can force it to pump out cold air or hot air :)

Yeah I can't deny the benefits! And digital climate = another gadget

Fox, how does the auxiliary heating thing work on the E39? I've heard you mention it before

All E39's allow you to use residual heat in the engine bay to continue to heat the car once the engine is turned off. Diesel E39's have a Webasto Auxillery heater - its a small diesel powered heater. It runs independantly of the engine and its primary function is to heat the coolant to compensate for the fact the diesel engine takes ages to warm up. A secondary function is that it can heat the cabin without the engine running, and an option exists to program it to come on at certain times.

Always wondered what that did! Does that mean you get warm air out the rest of the vents and cold air out the center vents?

I'm quite impressed with the Saab system, lots of clever bits like automatic defrost, automatic recirculation when it needs to work hard to cool the car quickly, even automatic recirc for 30s when you squirt the washer jets so the cabin doesnt smell like washer fluid

I was about to abuse the person who'd bumped a 4 year old thread, then I realised :p

Still looking in great condition :) Going to be at Powerstation in May?

Yup - basically I just learned how to use it. I now absolutely swear by it and it works perfectly :)

Unless you put a hot drink in the cup holder ;)

Edit: Are you going for nav?

Still trying to decide. I want to - and was going to - but was a bit underwhelmed playing with it at the Soton meet. It has a split screen mode but wont let you display both the map AND the music information at the same time, which is a pretty annoying limitation given thats what I'd want the default display to be.
