I need to host a site preferably for the client at a UK-based host. I used to use Easyspace but wasnt too impressed. What UK hosting companies would you guys recommend?

In terms of features, I want a company that offers both shared hosting and a dedicated server option, as well as cpanel and the usual stuff that comes with it like file manager, backups, and a script installer like fantastico or simplescripts.

TSO-Host or Vidahost are the general opinion in these boards :)
Can't go wrong with either.

It's becoming like a game now. See which side gets the most mentions in a thread.

Should just put a sticky at the top of the forum recommending them both.

+1 for Vidahost

By the way, how do SLAs of 99.9% uptime work? If they are down for longer than 0.1% of a month they refund you that month, or part of that month?

(Its not a big issue for me personally but I have to be able to answer that question)

Edit: Nevermind I found the page where they explain how it works :)

It depends on the hosting company in question.

Some companies will offer a refund based on the amount of time they are down - e.g. I've heard of one company offering a "100% Uptime Guarantee", but then when you read the small print, they'll actually credit you approximately 1 days hosting fees for every hour that it's down. So your site can be down for 30 hours in a month before you would be even compensated for your hosting costs. :p

As with any SLA/guarantee, read the small print to see what's covered and what isn't covered. :)

FOr the mazillionth time, TSOHost :p

We really need an affiliate scheme and sticky. I'm sure the scheme would pay for the forums running costs :p
