I polished the 530i + 1st week comments

Looks great Fox.

Just out of interest, was the indy you got to do the CCV valve etc a BMW specialist or had he got experience working on these things? The one I use hasn't, he didn't even know where the pcv valve was on them or quite what it was so I am unsure weather I should let him do the job for me or do it myself, since I have read the documentation and know what to expect ...in theory.

I guess I can let him do the rocker cover gaskets though, I'm not sure I am willing to take that job on myself just yet, it is fairly involved and I'd have to do it outside on the drive ... I guess rocker cover gaskets are rocker cover gaskets really so I see noi reason my indy can't do them. I know there are some complications with doing them on the M62TU but then most cars probably have some sort of complication.

Diesel E39's have a Webasto Auxillery heater - its a small diesel powered heater. It runs independantly of the engine and its primary function is to heat the coolant to compensate for the fact the diesel engine takes ages to warm up. A secondary function is that it can heat the cabin without the engine running, and an option exists to program it to come on at certain times.

Pretty much what an HGV's "Night heater" is. - Good explanation!

Excellent update post Fpx, most impressive of all that you seem (asuming I have not missed it) to have omitted the cars mileage now, which when you consider the condition of the car makes it all the more impressive. :)

Looking good Fox.

I would be interested in getting my VANOS refurbished, will have to wait a while as I still don't have a job and it appears my clutch slips a little if I give it loads, something I'd rather get done sooner than later.

Looks very nice, seeing your clean shiny car has reminded me that it might just be time to introduce mine to a bucket of water or 2, it's been around 4 years since I last gave my car a wash :D

For some reason I always thought your car an 03.

How did you remove the T bar? I know I could google it but did you have to cut it off or is it screwed/clipped in place?

I like this, I really do - I'd go as far as to say, I'd have been considering these if there were any that were are tidy as yours.

The T-Bar on the E39 is actually part of the front grille, so it's as simple as removing the grille and replacing it.

So, is it time for the e39 to go then with the bump to this thread? The start and end of your time with it? ;)

It'll go once I've decided what I want (And, if applicable, saved enough for it!). It's a very difficult car to replace, I want to avoid any unfavourable comparisons with it against whatever comes next. 60% of the time I want a 335i, 20% of the time I think really it's E39 M5 time and the remainder of the time I'm not sure what it should be. 6 Series perhaps?

Looks as good now as when you bought it, which admittedly looked new, you've obviously looked after it very well and this shows. It sounds like you have had a positive ownership experience probably aided by the fact that you were so meticulous when it came to researching and purchasing it.

One of my neighbours has a rather tasty blue e39 and he keeps his really tidy as well, I think they are really elegant cars. There doesn't seem many really good examples of these left either so if you do decided to sell it in the next x years you should still get a decent amount back from it?

Anyway, here is to the next 30,000 miles

What priorities have you in mind with an M5 regards mileages and number of owners or is it simply buy on condition and service history?

It seems now the low mileage ones are demanding a much higher price but servicing around 60k-80k will be expensive as its usually clutch time, is it better to go for one around 80+ thats had an insp 2 and clutch done.

You need an SL Mercedes. You love them and you know they are the only cars worth buying. Do it

I prefer the white/yellow with the jdm (80's Accord :p ) front, and the red/black in ukdm

Insurance is generally cheaper on the UK models, performance wise, they're practically the same, I think the 96jdm is considered the quickest..

Posting in the wrong thread again mate ;)

If it's to be an M5, it must be my dream M5. It is the car I have wanted ever since, aged 15, I bought a copy of Need for Speed Road Challenge :p

So it must be Le Mans Blue or Estoril Blue and it must have the black dashtop and Champagne or Beige leather with communications pack.

Ideally one owner from new but thats so unlikely I'd compromise with 2. 80k sounds fine - I'd want a warranty for the first year..

But the problem is tommorrow i'll again decide that buying an 8 year old BMW is stupid, as it doesnt really fix any of the things I wish I could change about my current car (Mostly tech based).

I would absolutely love an AMG kitted SL500. Realistically, though, I cannot afford it.
