Got my Asus Crosshair IV Formula today and Phenom II 1090T x6 processor.

Just wondering which is going to be better for video rendering in your opinion?

The i7 950 quadcore 3.06ghz in a foxconn flaming blade or the 1090T x6 6 core processor in the above mentioned asus board.

I've always seen Intel as the leader when it comes to rendering but will the 6 core be better?

My friend at Asus says the AMD system will be better, but he may be biased due to the board :p

Thanks,

Andy

Already got the i7 950 which i was using as a test rig, not sure whether to keep using it as the test rig or make it my main rig or making the x6 my test rig or my main rig.

Just need the quickest one for video rendering to be honest.

Lol, you tell us :)

There aren't any proper reviews of the chip yet AFAIK (read: Anandtech and Tech report haven't put one up yet) and they aren't for sale.

At a guess, the 1090T will be marginally faster than the 950 at stock. However, the i7 will overclock better so when both are fully overclocked (with good cooling) the i7 will be the faster in everything including multithreaded apps (like video editing).

I'm not allowed to tell you until the 27th i'm afraid :( embargo, don't fancy breaking NDA lol.

I won't be overclocking any of them as a long term measure. So looks as though the x6 will be the one to go for then.

Is this a wow I've got thread? No-one knows performance stats like you say... NDA. But now I know you have this hardware your my biggest hero!

Not at all, if you really want me to willy wave, i had a 5750/5770/5850 black edition, asus crosshair iv formula, foxconn flamingblade, phenom II 955/965/the whole range of e chips but no i was clearly asking from what people have seen so far, so get off your high horse.

NDA applies to people who have signed it, there are still stats, figures and benches out there, so obviously people do know the stats don't they.

I'm glad i'm your hero, you seem like the kind of distressed individual who needs someone to look upto, and i'm glad i can be there in your time in need. Lord knows what you might do if there wasn't me to be your hero, you might...dare i say it? Have a life?

That is all.

Could you answer your original question by testing them privately and then let us know which one you're probably going to keep based on your desire to have the fastest encoding set-up?
