I-Kube Insurance - Cheap Insurance for young drivers

What's to stop 'somebody else' from driving it at night?

Mostly the fact that you would be committing insurance fraud, as per the jammer suggestion.

It's a very interest idea though, Mr. Happy. Since my brother is about to take his test it will definitely be worth checking out :).

a couple of thoughts.

Its a good idea - but not for everyone. I dont see why driving between 11 & 5 is a higher risk as the roads are comparitively empty? Unless its to identify and catch the car quicker, reducing payouts?

What if you were driving in a multistorey car park all night - which youngsters seem to like hanging out in - GPS rarely works in those situations, though it could have a gyroscope in as well...

If I was 17, I'd lap that up.

Unless you're a drug dealer, there's no reason to be driving that late at night :o

Because it's the time they crawl out and show off to their 15 year old mates and usually kill themselves.

I think the idea is to stop people racing around late at night etc. as generally speaking young people having accidents (or the likelihood/possibility of accidents) when racing around against each other is much higher between those hours..ie night time than it is during the middle of the day.

It also means if the car has less time on the road, there is much less a chance of an accident anyway and so less chance the insurance co will have to pay out.

actually they explain on the site how 40% of the fatalities amoung people aged 17 to 25 occur during 11pm 5am, so if you don't drive then, then 40% discount.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Sure it can be a bit annoying, but nobody forces you to use them and you can get a great price this way.

Yeah, because 17 year olds aren't allowed to socialise.

I'd never have settled for this kind of scheme when I was 17, but then I never paid more than £1400 comp anyway.

When i was 17 most of my driving was probably between those times, still is when im back home. At uni though id be happy for something like this as i would rarely need to drive at night. *runs off to get a quote*

It would certainly make a trip to the cinema rather expensive if you go to see any film starting at around 9!

It's sort of a good idea.

If you're signing up, then you have to commit to those hours. No point in arguing with them if they're going to provide you with cheaper cover.

Can you have an older named driver on the policy. Say your mum. What if her job needed a car after 11pm?

Would it detect if two youths with this device were trying to race eachother. I.e in the same location, stopping for red lights, then sprinting off. Would it also detect you in a McDonald's car park late at night for long periods?

Wasn't there ever an idea that you could retard the performance of new cars electronically so newly passed knew their limits?

What about the other way.. if you never exceeded the speed limits, drove your car as economically as you could, was always home well within those hours, you should get some money back.

You people realise that using a GPS jammer is equivalent to driving un-insured right? One light crash and your toast, goodbye license.

You think that a high-risk postcode is purely based off auto-theft?

Theft would be the major cause surely, it's not like arson or just random vandalism is that common?

On a completely unrelated note, anyone know of anyone who wants to buy a '92 Celica? :D I wanna get rid of mine, but am having no takers :(
