Wil my PC be ok for a 5970?

Or just take 5 or 6 benchmarks run them and write down your scores then overclock the cpu to say 3.6 and run them again then if your scores go up you have cpu bottleneck.
 
As mentioned earlier. Even if my CPU is a bit of a bottleneck and people with i7's get say 86 to 90 fps at max settings in games, does it really matter if I can only get say 63-70? Vsync will be on anyway:)
 
I think if you can justify the cost ( I reckon no fags/booze covers it easy :) ) you have done the right thing. Whatever way you look at it, this the best graphics card available at the moment and in near future so you are future proofed as you upgrade CPU etc. over the next couple of years.
I have been trying to make the same decision all weekend and still struggling justify it myself, the same as I did when I bought my 8800GTX 3 1/2 years ago.
Looking forward to reading your impressions once you have it.
 
Got the card installed:) Everything at stock. Dirt 2 average 53fps at 1080p everything on Ultra. Using the official catalyst 10.3's. I heard there was a 10.3a, are they better than the official 10.3's?

I'm getting higher framerates in Dirt 2 than I had before and with Ultra settings on now:)

Mainly bugfixes really mate. If you like install over the top of your 10.3's, can't hurt anything.
 
The 10.3a driver (preview) is the same as the 10.3 WHQl, but not certified and includes a few extra game fixes/enhancements for the likes of AvP and BFBC:2.
Most have seen some improvment in FPS with the 10.3a drivers :)
 
I got 15500 on vantage (performance prest). I think the cpu score let me down a bit. But I'm still happy and can wait a while to upgrade to an i7 or sommit:)

I really need to order a replacement tomorrow, so tempted to go with the 5970.
