Hey, well.. I've got roughly £1100 to spend on a gaming pc.. And i was wondering - Could anyone put together the BEST GAMING PC For that price?

Im asking here, Because it seems like a good community. And quite frankly, Im useless xD

Thanks :)

I would wait until next week as the new Phenom II X6 processors are being released and this could cause a reduction in the price of some Intel processors. There is also the Phenom II X4 960T quad core also being released too although I am uncertain whether it is coming out next week.

Yeah, i was looking at the thurban x6 processors.. Look alright. But then again - I get NO. GO FOR i7.

I mean.. AMD are cheaper, But still perform well?

Unless you are so uber desperate to get a new computer what is a week or two to see how the new processors perform??

This will probably the last major AMD processor released until Llano and Bulldozer are released and will be the first time for ages AMD will have a processor in the £150 to £250 price range.

Intel can charge what it wants in the £155+ processor market as there were no AMD processors in that price bracket at all and having a few AMD processors in the £150 to £250 will mean more competitive pricing.

Also the Core i7 is not the best choice for a gaming build unless you want to overclock or need a Crossfire setup. A Core i5 750 is a better choice especially for a single card setup.

If you open to building the system yourself, this is what I would go for:

The X6 is interesting, but clock-for-clock it will still be slower than the i7 and hex cores don't boost performance in modern games. The X6 may kick down prices of the i7 930 and above, but due to the impending EOL I don't reckon the 920 will be at this price for too long.

Yeah, im not particually desperate.. Im just thinking. Is it really worth going I7 not AMD. I wouldnt think so tbh. As long as it performs well in games..?

A few important questions:
1.)Do you intend to overclock?
2.)Do you need Crossfire or SLI?
3.)Do you need a new monitor?
4.)Do you want to spend all your budget or keep some of it for future upgrades?
5.)Apart from gaming what are the other major uses for the computer?
6.)Do you need a copy of an OS?
7.)Can you assemble the computer?

I would like to maybe overclock a LITTLE. (Including GFX)
Crossfire.. Its a possability - Im hoping for an ATI Graphics card (Nvidias lost its touch imo)
I will not need a monitor
And im happy to spend it all.

I guess technically yes:
Probably fit in another cycle of graphics card in the future (if you desire to upgrade to faster future models)
Would be more powerful/quicker if you RIP the odd DVD/Music CD or WinRAR something or whatever.

or if you go AMD, could you get x2 5850s and then in the future when you upgrade, you would have to replace the motherboard and cpu

Broad as its long?

Just some thoughts?

The build in post 6 is quite nice but ATM many of the cheaper HD5850 1GB cards are on pre-order:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/search_results.php?sortby=priceAsc&search=hd 5850

Quite a few retailers have the Core i7 920 at between £180 to £190 ATM and it looks like Intel is trying to spoil the launch of the their newer processors! :p

Mhmm, Looking at that (Post 6) Build. Theres an extra £80 added onto that as i dont need an OS

And I5 (quad) - Isnt that similar for gaming to the i7?

*Muffled scream* 5870!!!!

Yea, the quad core 750 is. however, at the minute it is only £15 less - so you may as well go for the i7 as future games may make use of the hyperthreading and the X58 is the superior platform (x16x16 crossfire, triple channel memory, easier overclocking, supports future 32nm hex cores).

Ah, i can see the advantages there.. Thats the thing though, Im not in the mood to shell out £800 for a hex-core..

I dont know :/ Too many choices.

I think - I'll wait for AMD thuban Hex-cores. Then have a look round :)

Cheers guys

Aye, the only current intel i7 hex core is silly money. However, in the autumn the cheaper ones will be released. I'm betting they will still be ~£400 over here, but the option will be there.

As for waiting, its not too long now - so there isn't much you can loose by putting off buying by a week or so.

Yeah, SILLY money. Theres no need.. But yeah.. I've got some time to look around :)

I dont have the money yet anyway (I can get it all in one though soon)

Could get an i7 and 5850 crossfire at a push (£30 over and probably compromising on case and hard drive, depending on your preferences):

Still a perfectly valid build, and best performance for the money. Alternatively you could go for a single 5850 or 5770 crossfire and put the rest towards other things.

I would go with this but change the PSU to this one

And i would rather go with a single 5870 over xfire 5850 and get another if you ever need it XD.

I would definately wait 1 or 2 weeks. In fact AMD prices have fallen a lot recently (possibly due to the iminent launch of the X6 processors) I found a Phenom II x4 955 for £117 somewhere online.

But for £1100 I think your looking at i5/i7 as AMD phenom II x4 is more worthwhile with a lower budget or a meatier graphics card.

In fact my Phenom II x4 rig in my sig with windows 7 HP, logitech mx518 mouse, coolermaster elite 335 case, £20 logitech speakers, wireless card, 22 inch monitor came to around £875!

Mhmm, i was thinking AMD tbh.. I dont really plan on upgrading too often.. So a good graphics card (better) Would be better..
