On the road....
My girlfriend recently changed her car, part exchanging her S reg Mondeo 2.0 Ghia for a Y reg Mondeo 2.5 Ghia.

The dealer took her old car and we thought no more of it.

On my way home from work tonight, I passed her old car sat at the side of the road with a Council disposal notice stuck to the windscreen as the car as far as the council is concerned has been abandoned.

Disposal notice - apologies for my poor quality phone camera. :o
In a nutshell, the car is sat untaxed about 300yards from the dealer she part exchanged it at and it appears the dealer has simply dumped it there for the council to remove it at council tax payers expence!

I find this to be totally unacceptable and am wondering what to do about it.

My initial thought was to have a strong word with the dealer on my way to work, but wonder if I should speak to the council myself (or get the GF to) and explain to them that this dealer seems to be using them to dispose of his unwanted part exchanges......

Thoughts?

The car is so worthless that the dealer simply wants it crushed? Surely he'd just punt it for a couple of quid.

ps if he doesn't want it, take it back. If you don't want it, give it to someone that does.

Has this got any potential to come back to your door?

This is something I have to consider - No, it won't come back to me as such, bar test driving the "new" car for my GF, the transaction was between her and the trader.

I'll be giving her a call in the morning to see what she thinks but I imagine she won't want to rock the boat as such in case she has to take her car back to the trader for any warranty work (it has a 3mth warranty)

Its a bit of a tricky one I suppose, but as a council tax payer, I resent what this trader is doing.

Why on earth its too much hassle for him to weigh it in - theres a breakers yard next door to the traders site FFS!!!! - I don't know.

I get the feeling this is a regular practice of his, in the first image I posted,if you look behind my silver BMW you can just make out a white car, this is a Citroen Saxo which also has a disposal notice attatched to it even though its apparenty taxed until September.

I'd make good of the situation and offer to get rid of the cars for him :D, could make a good bit of cash there for potentially not much work.

Where is This Trader who can afford to dump S reg Mondys on the street ?
Get me a Number Please.

I'd contact the council, giving them details of who you sold the car to. Leave it to them to pursue it if indeed it is the trader dumping the car. It might also allow them some details to follow up it with the party they moved it on to if the paperwork isn't quite '100% completed'...

Is it definite that they've got disposal notices because they've been abandoned? just seems a bit odd that two would have next to each other (especially if one is taxed), just outside a trader and a breaking yard.
I don't know enough about the situations you can get a disposal notice put on a vehicle, could they be waiting to go into the breakers? Could he have arranged to have them scrapped by the council?

If it's anything like Lambeth then they will charge for the removal of the car anyway? Pay for release + every day the car is in there + charge for destruction of the car if it comes to it. I guess as long as the car is in the trader's name then nothing can happen to you guys?

If I was in her situation I'd be contacting the DVLA to make sure the mondy is no longer registered to me. I'd also be writing to the council with a copy of the invoice (which I assume has details of the trade in) and the slip from the V5.

She hasn't had a tax reminder has she?
