Colour WW1 photos

There's nothing basic about war and no you can't even compare.

Never said that did I, WW1 was basically trench work, tanks were new, planes were basic, artillery was basic, was a completely different war considering it was only 30 years difference and it was fought on foreign soil.

Dont need colour to see the horrific outcome of war. WW1 was basic compared to WW2 but still as deadly

i'd say ww1 was far worse than ww2 even if it was basic, the conditions were disgusting for nearly everyone involved and people were just basicly sent to their deaths attacking trenches with almost 0 chance of survival

I can't get over how different WW1 and WW2 were from each other...

Within 30years as well....WW2 seemed like such a modern war.

Goes to show you everything learned from WW1,

Still amazing photo's, such horrible circumstances

Great photos. I just wonder how they manage to do it? Do they just guess the colours so to speak or what?

Some horrible images in that video someone posted, can't imagine what it must have been like.

These are actual colour photos I think, but for other photos they pass the B&W photo's through 3 filters, Red Green and Blue, and adjust the hue/balance for each filter.

How do they go about giving these photos colour? I think I am right in believing they didn't have the technology for colour photos back then, or am I being daft?

Photoshop and most other photo applications have the ability to add colour to anything grayscale. A photo retoucher just researches the colour of the garments and then obviously paint on the appropriate colours with the use of layer styles(overlay, multiply, hard light etc). Obviously there's more involved but it can be as simple as you like.
