Got this through the post yesterday, and damn is it nice. It reminds me completely of my 80-200 af-s in terms of af speed and sharpness. Nikon defiantly made some cracking lens in this time period. It weighs a silly amount for the focal range (1kg iirc) but luckly I'm used to the weight of the 80-200 and the d80 is pretty light in comparison to prosumer cameras.

Actually, as a 'Nikon Man' myself, I'm a bit confused as to what I'm looking at too!

It's definately not an 80-200 or 70-200 lens, not big enough.

Is it a 28-70 f2.8?! :)

Aye up Martin, how are you?

How's it going with the D3? Still got that 400mm f2.8? :)

Hi mate, time you made another trip to the loop, be busy next week after everything being grounded for a week!!!!

D3 is a bit wasted on me :(, as I shoot long lenses, and miss the 1.5 crop factor of the D300,.... but it will come into its own in the winter time, when the light is abysmal in the loop.

Sold two of the D300's to fund the D3, so down to 2 bodies again D3/D300.

The 400 F/2.8 is stunning once you get used to the weight , and the wafer thin doff when its combined with the D3.

I still mostly use the D300 and 300mm 2.8 as I am so used to this combo and the Bushawk shoulder mount.

Hope to see you in the loop soon.

Martin

I got up there early March this year, stayed in Aberystwyth as it happens!

I'm itching to get back up there though, as ever, so might have a look at next week depending on the weather etc.

The Eagles seem to be visiting with some regularity again now too. :)

I've got myself a 300mm f2.8 now, not a Nikon though unfortunately, but I'm pleased with it, and it gets on just fine with my D300.

I have been looking at a D700 more and more lately, although I'm a bit concerned about the loss of the crop factor. I'd love the ISO performance though!

Tooks, sent you a PM.

To the OP, this was taken with the Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 AF-S
Place called Corris Corner in the Mach loop,........ only thing watch out for is lens flare with the lens.

 That thing is a beast. I've seen plenty of pictures of the lens but it's only with seeing it on your D80 that I actually get the true sense of its size. It looks to be quite a bit fatter than the 24-70. Enjoy your new lens. ;)

The 24-70 is the same length (but really quite a bit longer considering it doesn't have the aperture ring included in that) But the 28-70 is considerably wider. Side by side..
