Been out of PC gaming for 5yrs, sorry for the noob question

If you gaming at 1366x768 a Titan Nero or Krypt will be absolutely fine for you though if you going to upgrade monitor in the future then either of the specs are good but i would go with Jorzeh's.

The Nero and Krypt are quite powerful pcs for the price though.

Have you considered putting one together yourself? It is actually pretty simple (man lego) and it means you get more kit for your money. Here is a very well written guide that takes you through the process. If you do want to go down this route we would be happy to give you a full parts list that can just be assembled and meet your needs (ie mainly gaming).

Alternatively, if you don't want to build on yourself I would suggest going for this (+Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS and 5850 graphics options) and add a good gaming mouse like this. This would be a much better gaming system that the one listed in the 1st post and this one also has significant upgrade potential (add a second 5850 in the future if you wish).

Building myself is what Ive done in the past and wanted to get away from it this time (I always **** one little thing up in the build). Basically this time I want a PC built by the pros.

Oh and cheers for suggestion !

I5 750 @ 4ghz would me like a ninja vs an old lady :( Really the other system you are paying more for is not as fast :(
£36 more for 5850 is a fair chunk quicker currently it's the Gamers choice they run Very cool and Very quite to the point of allmost silence.

Onboard sound thease days is very good hard to tell the differance unless you have very very highend speakers or headphones.

You would be Pming me telling me how wonderful that system is if you got the 750 ^^ we could go pwn zombies on l4d2 xD.

Cheers for posting about the onboard sound - I was just about to ask that again.

As marine said sound cards are rather cheap now Any of the XFI's are good even the lowend ones personally i would go for that system since core i5 750s scale so amazing in games with overclock you would prob see more FPS then my i7 930 since they are clock for clock just about the best cpu for gaming (excluding the exetreme i7s)

Gpu is amazing you'll be shocked when you are playing games @ 1920x1080 with all settings on max and basically Drooling :) you won't have to be looking for a new GPU for along time :D.

I use Xfi music but i can't really tell the differance to onboard thease days.

For speaker I would recommend the Genius SW-N2.1 1100, it's around £30...and the sound quality is really good for the price. I remember after reading its review in Custom PC (think it was last November), which they gave a Premium Grade award for it, I wanted to get one myself. But every single online shop that sell it (and priced reasonable at £28~32) all sold out and no stock. I eventually manage to get one at £32+£6 delivery, but that was not until the end of the year rofl

As dumb as it sound, I think my onboard sound is 'bottlenecking (lol)' my speaker XD

Hi ,
Ive got a 5.1 sytem speaker set up at the mo with optical out and wouldnt mind the extra few bucks for a sound card.

But (numpty question coming up) - Marines sound cards dont seem to have a optical out on them. I think the XFi ones do....... But I do have Co-Axial on my speaker set up (that Ive never used) - is this how you would connect to Marines quoted cards, for 5.1 sound (and is the sound just as good as optical out?)

A speaker system with a optical connection ? Sounds like a nice one, is it connected via an amp?

Anyway, I don't think you will be needing a separate sound card. If you connect via analogue connectors (ie PC speakers) then a sound card is great to have and improves the quality compared to the realtek. However, when connecting digitally via optical the difference just isn't there. I would suggest simply connecting the speakers to the motherboard optical and save yourself the money.

One problem with XFi is that they are no longer supported (if I'm not mistaken) in Windows 7. I go have a look at my Custom PC magazine's review and get back to you on your question. But to ask your question on top of my head, the Asus Xonar DX is great, even if it's not optical out.

I think you may be thinking of the Creative Audigy cards, which Creative heartlessly would not write drivers for Windows Vista - so they could sell their new vista-capable XFi cards. However, this was resolved later as I belive creative now has drivers for Audigy cards that run on both Vista and 7.

Xfi on the other hand works fine on Win 7. I have had my old X-fi Xtreme Gamer running on Window 7 since the beta, works fine.

Right...thanks for the info. From the sound of it billy got a nice speaker set, so may be it would be worth while for him to get a Sound Card I think?

Edited: from the review of the few people that bought the Asus Xonar DX, it seem it's sound quality is better than the X-FI, and with less problem in general...

Dont get a 5830!!!! They are much much worse value. Seriously get the 5850.

Slight overkill on your current monitor but with a monitor upgrade you can afford (worth it, having seen my bro playing avp on a ps3+tv compared to mine on 5850 and monitor the difference is epic) and the fact you dont sound like the kind of guy who upgrades every 6 months, this card should see you a ways down the line as well as really, really impressing you now.

On the Sound Card Front. I DO have a 5.1 speaker + AMP with digital and coaxial 2 phono outputs.

No it is not very good by the standards of you guys anyway - it cost me £80 about 5 years ago from Argos. (Ive noticed in the last year its practically impossible to get a cheap set like this WITH OPTICAL) - Check out all the cheapos in Asda, none are digital.

But my PC/games room is a converted cupboard lol and (to me anyway) music and games sound awesome through this set up.

Soooo, Im a bit lost from all the replies :-

1) For demanding games do you get an increase in FPS using an add on card
2) Does digital sound better on the PC (As it does by miles on PS3 and XBOx) - some .

I dont think the speaker system is good enough for it to 'sound better' - - Im more interested in if it will increase performance in games by having one....

1) A little bit (it offloads the sound processing from the CPU to the sound card) however for an i5 system this load will be tiny and the performance benefit will be vanishingly small.

2) I would strongly suggest connecting the amp to the motherboard's optical connection. Since its all digital - the quality compared to a sound card optical should be the same, all the sound quality will be determined by your amp and speakers.

Cheers , no point in throwing money away will go with option 2.

Really, thanks for taking the time.
