If you could move out of the UK...

Buggers, on the back of this thread i've just sent 4 emails of to canadian based oil companies :-/ lets see how this progresses lol

Would definitely move if I get the right opportunity. If I don't I'll travel for a while instead and see what happens. Restricted as I only speak English, but hope to rectify this over the next few years.

I emigrated from SA to UK 6 years and really love it here. Ok it's not perfect but considering the scale of political inneffiency/corruption and crime back in SA, it's far better here.

Perhaps you just got to step back and see that the UK is a very good country to live in and the grass is greener here.

Transplant the UK government into SA and then the majority of people in this thread would be wanting to emigrate to SA instead of Oz, it's a seriously naturally beautiful country with lots of potential ruined by the people in power :(

Having just got back from travelling, mainly to Australia and New Zealand. I can definitely say i'd never leave the UK. It certainly makes you appreciate England when your actually live in these other countries for a while. I mean they're great for travelling and they have a lot of benefits to living there but it'll never be home, not to me anyway.

It's far from perfect here, but it's a fantastic country and I think you have to leave here for a while to fully appreciate it.

Before I left for travelling I was considering moving abroad to Oz/NZ. Decision now made :D
Snap. I'm exactly the same.

Those of you thinking about moving to these places, have you been there for an extended period of time?

..
A part of me thinks though that I would eventually miss the little things I've come to hate in the UK.

The mistake a lot of brits make when they move abroad is they dont embrase the culture and ways of the country they move to. They start hanging around with the other british expats , then they start reminising about britain and they get homesick. Next thing you know they are back in britain.

If you move to another country make some local friends and live like they do.

Sometimes you just gotta risk it and not look back. I know i will, my dad regrets not moving the family to Aus when he had the chance in the 70's.

What's with all the "hate the UK" comments?

I would probably move to British Columbia, Canada -- but not because I dislike the UK. I think I would miss the UK a lot, but I believe I would have a better quality of life in BC, Canada, and because I enjoy outdoor sports it'd be ideal.

A lot of people who think about moving abroad wrongly believe that everything is better, and all the problems this country has are unique to the UK. It's those same people that usually end up returning to the UK after a year or two.

yes, but not because Britain sucks, it doesn't far from it. There's just a lack of usable space and a few over tight laws.

But I would love to move to America. where I could own a lot of land and buy a qaud-bike and dirt bike and ride in either dessert or mountains depending where I moved to. Shoot guns and go hunting. Build and extend your house with out most of the stupid over tight planning permission we have in the UK. I just want a quite life, where I can tinker with house, garden, cars. Grow and make food and go greenlaneing.

Or Canada and going kayaking every weekend instead of dirt biking.

I like the UK, it is just the weather that annoys me.

If I could get exactly the same job then I suppose I would move to somewhere it was sunny and could go Skiing.

Completely agree. I am trying to move to BC, not because I think Britain is rubbish, but because I want a bit of life adventure, BC would possibly suit me better due to the outdoor lifestyle (Being able to go skiing most days during the winter would be awesome!) and because I want to try something different. I will most definitely miss aspects of Britain. Mainly friends and family, but probably also lots of little things we normally take for granted.

I also would rather move abroad and try it, not like it and come back than not try it at all. What's the worst that can happen? I would loose lots of money, but at least I would have experiences and stories to tell.

I'm thinking of heading over to Australia for a few years in the near future. Not because I don't like the UK but because of the opportunity for jobs (aren't any of this type in the UK) and the money that would come with it (far higher starting salary) as well as just going somewhere different. The fact Oz is far larger with far more space to have some fun is also a major plus.

I'd probably stay there for a few years, see what I like and then head back here and perhaps head to Canada after, another great looking place.

I'm quite happy in Wales although I'd like to move to France or at least live there for an extended period. Much better food and fashion than we have over here in my opinion.

As an Aussie who's been in London for 3 years I think a lot of you are seriously delusional about what Australia/NZ can offer that the UK can't. But that's something you'll only learn through experience I guess.
