Desire or Nexus 1

I've been following the Desire vs iphone debate and was wondering what the thoughts are around the Nexus and Desire handsets.

On paper the technical specs seem very similar (desire slightly more ram, nexus voice cancelling).

I'm leaning towards the nexus 1 simply because updates will be readily available.

Thoughts?

I would quite like the nexus one but thats because I am a little bit of a nerd and it looks a little more nerdy in my opinion. I read a review comparing the two and he said that he kinda preferred the desire when it was noisy. Something about the nexus one making his voice sound odd.

In all honesty they are very very similar so its all down to personal choice and which is cheaper.

Six of one etc...I'd lean towards the desire because

a) the optical track ball is a good idea, mechanical ones don't last (then again, how much do you use it?)

b) there's not much sign of networks subsidising the nexus one, so unless you're planning on buying sim free full price...

This tbqh...the Desire is at least subsidised by networks...voda and tmobile are supposedly carrying the Nexus 1 but its not guaranteed.

I had the choice between the two and went for the Nexus because it was much easier to get hold of two months ago. Right now though, I'd go for the Desire; the phones are almost identical, but Sense UI is a lot fancier than stock Android.

im not fussed abotu buying it network free (have some dollars to burn anyhow).

if there was more of a technical/physical difference this would be an easier choice!

have a mate with a nexus one, who rants and raves about how good it is.. might go with it, the only advantage in my eyes with the desire was the fact it was a few months newer.

I'd go Nexus, you can run the Desire ROM on it, if you want, which essentially makes it a Desire.

Being Googles own phone it will get updates the fastest, and with Froyo (Android 2.2) being (probably, rumoured 16th May) not far away thats a big plus!

If I were buying today, I'd be cheeky, buy the Nexus from the States, get the Desire on contract and ebay it, leaving you, essentially, with a Nexus One subsidised on contract :D

I brought a Nexus back in Jan and haven't regretted a moment :)

Why have I not thought of this... duhhhh! *goes to look at Desire contracts*

(Had my Nexus for a little while now).

Check the Desire thread for deals, there was a good Orange deal, but I can't stand their customer service and it seems to have expired :( , so I'm awaiting a call back from Vodafone as we speak, see what they can offer.

Interestingly the Nexi go for ~£50 more on ebay that the Desires, clearly the public are too lazy to import one themselves :p Seriously I could sell my Nexus now and have lost £10 in 3 months, including delivery and VAT :o But I won't :p

I went with the Nexus at the beginning of March and don't regret it one bit. The modding/hacking community is so much more evolved for the Nexus now that, for me, I don't see any advantage to the Desire apart from it being subsidised on more carriers than the Nexus.

The Nexus will get updates faster, it has a bigger hacking community with more Roms available, and it has noise cancellation and voice recognition for search and dictating texts/e-mail.

I would be happy with either phone, though, and it just comes down to personal choice.

Try reading the review of both the Nexus and Desire over at GSM Arena. The desire has hardware buttons which work considerably better than the touch ones on the Nexus. Plus the trackball issue which has already been mentioned. I'll probably go with the Desire, just because it's more redily available right now, although I do prefer the look of the Nexus.

The desire has slightly more ram , Nexus One has 512 and Desire has 576.

But remember the Nexus is running 2.6.32 and .33 kernels in some cases (Rooted phones and an awesome dev community :D ), so it can actually use more of its RAM, the Desires is still on 2.6.29 until Froyo is released/the device is rooted AFAIK.

If you're keeping your phone stock, get the Desire

Fancy messing around with brand new software and extra features? That'll be the Nexus :)
