Hi All I want to know if it is worth getting a 3d 120hz tft monitor for watching dvds ? thanks:confused:

Then in my opinion you would be much better off spending the money on a nice TV or possibly a good quality monitor (depending on budget).

IMHO 3D is a fad, it doesn't make movies any more interesting and gives people headaches (especially the LCD shutter glasses used for home 3D). Normal Blu Ray on a good 1080p TV or monitor looks great and you don't get the colour and brightness loss caused by the 3D glasses technology. Spending your cash on a normal TV or monitor will also mean you can get a mch larger screen size - which will make films even more immersive.

^^ not technically true (regarding headaches and dvd's)

The Tridef drivers can convert dvd quality footage into 3d from a 2d source based on algorithms calculating shadow, movement, position etc. in a scene which actually works rather well.

For the tridef drivers you need to be running either a 120hz screen, or a Zalman Trimon 3d monitor like the one I'm getting (it's the first 1080p 22" 3d monitor) which uses polarisation rather than shutters, so no headaches, no expensive glasses (although cheap glasses are still necessary) and means you can watch a film with more than one person without having to shell out a hundred every time an extra person is added to your party.

which model of monitor are you getting ?

which uses polarisation rather than shutters, so no headaches,

Just because it uses polarised glasses does not mean you won't get headaches, I just said that with shutter glasses it happens more often. Many Cinemas use polarised glasses in the form of "RealD" and these certainly give people headaches including myself.

Dolby's "RealD" and other polarising technologies are around 20 years old and don't don't require specific projection setups but are the cheap and easy way to provide a 3d setup.

The only times you get headaches with linear polarising glasses is when you either tilt your head sideways or the drivers misalign views or give you large amounts of crosstalk, which the Tridef drivers don't, although the iz3d monitors do.
