How to do a CV? How to job search? How to use a computer? How to dress for an interview? How to tie your shoe laces?

Aye, a little bit of me died on that course, especially when you look at the clip of some of the people on it, you just think, how on earth did i end up here?

i already had a perfect CV, already did job searches, already know how to use computer and how to dress for interviews - in a 2weeks course it was crap! sat there most of the time with nothing to do it was a complete waste of time

At some 13week course now, and so far this seems WORSE doing stupid things like filling out forms for the WHOLE first week and having to write down stuff about yourself which is ALREADY in my CV.

The good news is that i should be doing some IT Engineering course soon, but if its at the same place god knows how as we have 3 computers to share between 11+ people so 3 people get to do a job search, send off applications online and everything while EVERYONE else has NOTHING to do but just sit there!

At least you get fed and your travel back. ;) Most of my time there was spent listening to a bunch of chavs 'buzzin' that they'll not have to come in as they are in court the next day for sticking the nut on some kid who was eyeing up their bit skirt.

I'm in the 3rd and final year of my degree in Applied Computing, seems like a lifetime away from those days though i'll never forget them, for many of the wrong reasons. lol.

I wonder if you got to see the same video as I did, the one where two people attend an interview, one dressed well, shaven, suit, a right toff, and the other guy been on the lash the night before, stinking of beer and curry, in a crumpled shirt going in late, asking about money straight off while answering his mobile during the interview...then they ask which one should be given the job...I walked out, i felt like i'd hit rock bottom, i probably had.

I came back in after a ciggy (i smoked at the time) sat down and they were still discussing it like there was some debate about it. Next day i signed up for my degree.

Nope! thats only for the 2 week course, it costs me £8.20 a day! to get there and back, despite the fact that there is a similar course going which is 5mins away on train they send me to southampton which means i have to ride 20mins to station get 2 different trains and then ride another 20-25mins to get there!

yep saw that video TWICE! they had so little for us too do that they made us watch the same video twice in 2 days! its so shocking how little help you get there but i wont let that stop me! i will get a job - in the end

Congratulations :D

I've been out of work for well over 2 years now (due to a motorbike accident) but i'm really keen to work again, just having trouble finding any type of job right now =/

i have a real painful situation atm. Found a job via an agency. Full time, data admin, gives me all the experience I need ot get any other job after it. No set start date. Had the job theoretically for 4 weeks now, and got them on one side saying yes I'm in but still no start date, and the job centre on the other side saying as I have a job there's no need for me to do any of the courses (just past the 6 months last fortnight). But ofc I still have to sit down with the guy every fortnight to explain the same stuff, ring the company to triple / quadriple check I still have a job coming, then sign the papers and head home.

I was out of work for just over a year with little or no experience to speak of. You just gotta keep it, you've been on it longer so that despair is probably much worse...but still...keep at it. :)

All the agencies I've signed up with are rubbish. Either they have no work, or what's worse is that I apply for a job thinking I'm applying directly, but instead I'm signing up for a job agency that *might* get me the job. Grah.

Sounds like a rough situation...hope it sorts itself out soon.

Except they're supposedly "good", or at least the company bods who outsource HR think so. Makes life difficult for getting a half-decent job anyway...

When do you start?

Of course, my 'evidence' or 'proof' is all anecdotal and doesn't really give a proper impression. I'm sure there are some really decent ones out there.

I 'officially' started on Monday as in that's when I've been rota'd in and on the payroll and such - but I start my first non-training hours tomorrow at 9am. And then I think I'm working 9 days in a row. Yay overtime. :o

I've yet to come across one. Maybe when I've gathered all the certificates under the sun (so never) :p

I'd be doing it if I got that job as well...can't risk falling behind on bills.

Because I got a job! Finally, after over a year of unemployment, I've found a decent job ten minutes walk from my house. Early starts and long days, but it's really exciting. You wouldn't think being a Cleaner would actually have so much involved. Plus I get to ride around on the ride-on scrubber, which is much fun. :D

Decent wage, and plenty of opportunity for overtime hours.

So yeah...for those out of work for a long time...don't give up. This is my first "real" job and it's grand.

Also, butts.

That's what i do! Bit of advice, if you blitz through the place and really scrub it up to begin with (unless it doesn't need doing) then it'll make life a lot easier in the long run. I really don't mind this job, it pays okay, flexibilty with the work and i'm done by mid morning so get the whole day to myself.
