I'm looking about for a water block for the 285 that's arriving soon and I saw one that had this description

Aquacomputer AquagraFX Full Cover Waterblock for NVIDIA GTX 285 Type 2 Graphics Cards

Does anyone know what the difference between a type 1 and 2 board is and how to tell the difference between them.

My card is a BFG OC version which is supposed to be a few months old.

Thanks

answer my own question - have ordered the above part as supplier ran my 285s part number and it came up as compatible.

Let's see in a couple of days.

Well the cooler arrived today and a rather nifty piece of kit it is. Weighs a ton as it's milled out of a single chunk of copper.

All I need now is the 285. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow.

I don't understand why you got a 285GTX was it like.. £130 or something .. :P it's DX11 time people @@. OR RMA ?

Don't assume that everyone on this forum just plays games.

The reason I need a Nvidia GTX 285 is because of CUDA for the Mercury playback engine in Adobe Premier Pro CS5.

It doesn't matter that ATI cards are cheaper or the 280's go for less than 285s.

The list of supported Nvidia cards by Adobe is

•GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
•Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
•Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS)
•Quadro FX 5800 (Windows)
•Quadro CX

That's why I needed a 285

I was going to buy a 5850 until I saw where Permier Pro was going with CUDA

put some pics up. Also run the card air cooled first then water cooled and add results

Will do when the bl**dy card arrives. Thought it would have come today. If it's not here tomorrow time for a snotty message to the seller.

WHey Hey -- Card arrived today.

Installed it and did some air cooled benchmarks then ripped it to bits and put on the water cooler

I'll get some temps up soon.

what's the white thing at the bottom of your rig? with the 4 wires going into it? Sound card or something to do with your Rad?

Results of the messing about

First results are idle / load temps. I used a Winrar Password Recovery tool that is GPU CUDA based to stress the card. It runs the card constantly at 99%

Tests are on my old 8800GT and the 285 at the factory overclock on 666/1512/1242 and a bit more tweaking at 690/1566/1290

40 Degree reduction - That'll do.

I've had a few people ask why I went for a 285 and not a 5850. The following chart will give you some idea of what you can do with a Nvidia CUDA base application.

The password recovery tool running on the GPU and not the CPU is a completely different animal. I'll let the results speak for themselves.

As far as 3Dmark is concerned it's not too shabby for a single GPU

Time to play a little now and then see what Abode is like.

Looks nice but £81 or so is a lot of money for a block that only fits a single card. Temps are good though.

At £81 I would want it to cool my beer as well.

This was the last one in stock at the retailers. Wonder if they were trying to get rid of it.

Don't really care though, as when you add on VAT it's still only £39.99 including the fittings. :D
