Medusa Headphones

Well, after much testing of the dr50 & dolby headphone I have come to the conclusion that dolby headphone kicks the ass off the medusas but isnt quite as good at the gainward sound explosion 5.1 headphones at positional sound but sound as good for everything else. (basically the gainward's sound as good as the dr50's in music and movies and gives clearer / crisp positional sound in games).

I now have a lovely pair of heaphones (dr50) for late night TV watching & movies (will be paired with an E5 fiio amp) but i will be keeping the gainwards for gaming! Truly best of both :)

If you like the DR50's, you'll be blown away by the DR150's. ;)

Uriel, I didn't know you had a pair of 600's, what amp are you using? I'm using a battery powered one for mine, and I think I can improve things a bit by going for a better amp. :)

Yeah - I got some HD600s when they were on offer for just under £100 a few weeks ago. Experimenting with amps at the moment.

Somewhat unexpectedly, I'm getting the best results with the headphone out on my old Sony stereo speaker amp. Have also tried them with a FiiO e5, CMOY, Bravo Audio V1 Tube Amp, SU-DH1, plus soundcard and pmps. Out of that lot the Bravo does the best job.

Truth be told, I don't have a headphone amp that's really suitable for high impedance headphones at the moment. One reason I'm so surprised that my Sony amp does well is that it's really awful for my Goldring NS1000s in passive mode. Different electrical characteristics I suppose.

That makes sense, a higher impedance headphone (or speaker) will need more voltage swing, which is why maybe your sony amp works well, as speaker amps usually run at higher voltages than headphone amps (unless tubes are involved).

I have yet to try a tube amp myself, but it's on my list of things to try, I want to know what all the fuss is about... £100 is very cheap for HD-600's, I paid £110 for a 2nd hand pair!

IDD, my only problem is money :)

It was VERY close between the dolby headphone and my original cans but the gainwards sound as good sound wise and obviously position sound better. Shame there not sold anymore....
