Is this legal?

Maybe bolting a few on top of the roof box might be a good idea.
I did suggest the side of doors, but apparently this IS illegal

Side doors would look bloody awesome on a Saxo though. :p

But on the side is more likely to be vandalised too. If you can, keep a couple inside the car, will keep them safer.

Do you still loose as much visibilty on the bonnet with the wheel as far forward as it will go?

How much space is the between the engine and the bonnet? Could you put a nice doughnut shaped dent in the bonnet to alow the wheel inch or so recess to sit in?

i'll try and take a photo from inside the car to show what it's like later (or tomorrow, as i'm dying today) - but about 25% of the height visibility when it's on - but will try further down.

going on sin_chase idea why not have it hinged on the rear roof rack bar with a couple of wheels for it to roll up the boot giving you a rack on your back door without having to change the door etc

mount a couple of space savers on the bonnet they wont restrict vision obv would only use them in an emergency to get to a town with a tyre place but at least u will be mobile

Pack less stuff and put the wheel in the back where it belongs, if it has to go outside put it on the roof.

This.

You do realise the more weight the car is carrying the more likely you are to have reliability issues?. Saxos arent designed to be filled to the gunnels and taken on huge trips. Your far more likely to have issues with suspension, tyres, clutches even stress cracks on the body of the car if the roads are rough.

I know two guys who did this rally in 2007, they managed to have their truck stolen, by "sand ******" as they called them :p
