Anyone heard anything about this? I was holding off on 3d because there weren't any 1080p monitors yet. It comes with it's own glasses, but at the same time it requires an nvidia card. Are the glasses provided nvidia 3d vision glasses or does it just use the same drivers? If they are the nvidia glasses I assume it comes with the transmitter, but if not is it possible to use the nvidia glasses on it?

EDIT nvm the above, missed the part about polarising glasses. /EDIT

Definitely contending for a a place in my new build, I've found it (competitor) at £270 with the glasses, and considering the 1680*1050 monitors are £340 ish with glasses it's very tempting.

Anyone heard anything on it?

EDIT Does anyone know about the technology or why they need Nvidia cards? Will they suffer the same problems as the iz3d monitors or have Zalmann sorted them out? Does Windows still think it's two separate monitors on the desktop i.e. moving stuff over to the polarising screen rather than the edge? /EDIT

They seem to mention iz3d drivers an awful lot..

Is this just an iz3d monitor made by Zalman? If it is then I'm not so sure, the iz3d drivers are really buggy, don't work in crossfire or sli.

But why would they force you to use nvidia cards?

I'm sorry I didn't see this actually. I bought a Zalman M215W monitor (though it never arrived, grrr... - got my money back though).

There are two different drivers you could use, the iZ3D and the TriDef drivers. The TriDefs appear to work better in the games in which they actually work, but there are some which simply don't work, unlike the iZ3D in which they tend to work in all games, just not that well.

I think Zalman recommend the Nvidia cards for the reason you suggested, the iZ3D and the Tridefs lack development for anything beyond DX9 and Crossfire and SLI.

I was going to get both the iZ3D and the TriDef drivers, though with the failure of the company I got the monitor from, I am not getting 3D for a little while now. Best thing to do is if you get the monitor, both the drivers come with free trials - so try them both and see which you prefer.

Is there a list for tridef compatible games? The Zalman site links you to the iz3d game list.

Oh and are nvidia cards recommended or required? And if they are required is that just to use nvidia's drivers, or does the monitor just flat out not work with ATi cards?

I don't know too much about tridef, did a fair bit of research into iz3d a while ago. Do the tridef drivers work with ATi cards and Crossfire?

I'll pm you the company I'm looking at it on to see if it's them, if it is then :( unless oc decide to stock it (hint hint)

Have you decided actively to not get it, or have you just not found someone else to get it from?

I've decided not to get it for a while certainly - to see where 3D goes in terms of popularity and new products.

The TriDef drivers work with ATI cards, but share the DX9 limitation. I don't know about Crossfire however.

The Zalman monitor will work with the iZ3D and TriDef drivers on any 3D graphics card (IE any ATI or NVidia graphics card), just that on release ATI hadn't shown an intention to get involved in 3D, so they simply recommended NVidia, though it would have worked using the iZ3D or TriDef drivers anyway.

If the company you intend to buy it from is a crappy pun, then avoid, if it's a UK Zalman distributor (wholesaler), then go ahead. I only know of two places in the UK that sell it, about the same price, so hopefully this covers it.

This is the TriDef supported games list:

Clicky

The TriDef package also includes a 2D-3D film converter (that apparently works surprisingly well), which may also interest you.

I'd have a look at this Tom's Hardware article about it - whilst it doesn't talk about the Zalman monitor, it does talk a lot about the drivers, and is quite useful.

Basically - you are looking for the 'Interlaced' support when looking for drivers for the Zalman. The others (Acer, Samsung, Viewsonic, Alienware etc) use Stereoscopic.

Both have compatibility - TriDef (first table - and comparing with TriDef Ignition - the game driver) and iZ3D (scroll to the bottom of the page)

Well the Tridef driver seems to work with all the games I have and plan to get (based on prequels etc.) for the moment so I have a feeling I'll be going with that, assuming they keep up support for it rather than shift exclusively to 120Hz stereoscopic which would be a shame.

As I said, you can get both on free trials, so you may as well experiment and have a play around with them and see which you prefer, or just get both.

Well I know for a fact the iz3d drivers don't work with crossfire setups, or rather they just use one card on it's own. Is it the same case with the tridef drivers or do those support crossfire?

Does anyone know whether or not the Zalman supports ATi cards, the page on a competitors site says it supports nvidia geforce cards, with no mention of Ati. I assume this is just because nvidia cards are the only ones compatible with ALL driver options for the Zalman monitor (nvidia 3dvision (non active shutter), DDd tridef and iz3d)?

It would be SO lame if the zalman doesn't end up supporting ATi cards, I've sent off an email to Zalman as well, but I don't know when I'll get a response from them, although I know for a fact the tridef drivers work with Ati cards normally.

I think it just hasn't been stocked anywhere yet. The old model line up was their 22" (not 21.5") and 19" 3d monitors which weren't 16:9, the M240W will probably be stocked somewhere reasonably soon, you may want to ask Zalman on that though, that, or suggest it to ocUK.

Hi yeah i can,t find it anywhere i,ve emailed Zalman support /sales let you know what they say ..;)

I'm interested to hear what they say as to when it'll be available as well because I'd look into getting the 24 inch over the 21.5 providing the price is reasonable.

K I think I know who you mean if they are already stocking the 21.5" monitor.

Settled on my build now, trying to justify this monitor over a standard 22" or 24" at the moment and working out my final budget...
