New 3 series revealed

I'd be really intersted to see a new X type that takes the sane styling cues as the XF.

There are several cars in this segment that are much more interesting looking (take the 159 for instance) but they all have compromises in other areas. So to be the one in the office car park who breaks the mould, you've got to be really keen to do so

I think the people that buy these cars look at benefit in kind, fuel consumption and badge and then find a car to match.

99% of people don't care how a car feels to drive.

Its inevitable i guess, manufacturers will have to keep chasing these figures. I almost find it a shame though that brands such as BMW's M-Sport has been diluted to this extent though, it devalues the proper models :(

That's because 99% of people aren't interested in thrashing it round a track. They don't need performance since they'll invariably be stuck in traffic most of the time, they want a car that'll take them from A to B in comfort and style, reasonably quickly and without costing too much to run in the age of £1.20/litre.

Personally i think it looks horrid, then again i am rather biased as in my opinion the last "good" looking BMW was the E46.

Inside, the cabin will follow themes from the latest 5-Series, but it will take a huge leap forward with wi-fi. This will allow the 3-Series owners to get up-to-the-minute traffic information from the Internet.

And the F10 5-Series is only just out!

That makes no sense...does it mean it can connect to the internet by wifi - in which case, how many hotspots are there at the side of the road?

If it means there's an access point inside the car....why?

I would tend to agree but more recently i would say that the F10 & E92/3 M-Sport look decent.

But isnt that just saying that a particular model within a range is a looker, rather than saying that BMW got the styling of the E92/3 right.

I would tend to agree that the beefed up M's look far superior to the standard but isnt that the point.

Not really, as the E46 SE looks totally weak too....

My F10 comment above, i meant to say F01, ie, the new 7-Series. The F10 will look better when the M-Sport appears i am sure.

Agreed. People slated Bangle, but his designs were superb in all honesty. For people who didn't immediately take to the looks, they took a year or so to become accustomed to them.

What a load of 'scallops'. :)I can see now that the weird pressed curves were supposed to evoke the curvy bodies of vintage cars, or something - like the bent sill lines sort of draw the eye into imagining cycle wings - but you can become accustomed to something without ever liking it.

I think every time BMW release a car everyone goes "omg it's horrible I don't like it", then after a while everyone goes "actually it's not bad" then after a little while longer it's "yeah it's really nice" when it has the stick-on M Sport tat, big wheels and a colour that isn't beige.

Hmmm, not loving the front. Looks like a cat/dog when you stroke their head too hard.

I'll just have an e92 335i i think.

I don't like it, especially the back as it reminds me of the 3 series Compact which I never liked.
