I have heard that the stock fans on the CM690 II are a bit naff but how "naff" is "naff". I mean, if I bought the case, would there be an urgent need for better fans or is it something I can live with for a short while?

If I cant live for a short while, I was thinking of kitting my new case out with 3 (as I can only afford 3 atm) either Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000s (1000s due to less noise, even though I know that they only shift half the air of the 2000s...but do I really need almost 80CFM of air on my fans?) or Akasa Apache Blacks.

I know that the Apaches move more air for the sound volume they give off but they are £4 more each and I kind of like the white fan look of the Sharkoons.

Also one more question, kind of a big one really. My motherboard (Biostar TPower i45) doesnt seem to have case fan connections. Am I being stupid and missing them or does it not actually have any? If it doesnt, does that mean I would need a fan controller to use the new fans? I am used to 4pin molex fans you see.

Thanks

Of course you don't "need" to replace them, you seem to forget that the majority of users on this forum are computer enthusiasts that like things to be perfect, or as close to it as possible. You would only need to change the case fans if they were either broken, or too loud for your liking.

With regards to the motherboard connections, there should be at least one fan connection on there for the CPU fan, but case fan connectors are a bit of a rare occurrence. You can connect them straight to the power supply, but that will have them going full whack all the time, a fan controller can be used to slow them down, and in turn quieten them as well.

Ask yourself this: do you really need case fans anyway?
I have the CM690, but my i7 930(3.85GHZ) has a Thermalright IFX-14 for a hat, which:
a) is so big you have to remove one side case fan anyway
b) is so good you don't need so many case fans anyway
c) and the 4870's cooler is usually good enough to cool that

So....do you really need all the case fans?

And yes, if you don't have fan connectors on your mobo, you'll either need a fan controller or just plug them in the psu's 4-pin molex. This means the fans will spin full pelt 100% of the time though.

I like Fractal Design Fans. They can move some air, are also 1000rpm, and very quiet + 22pence cheaper (at 120mm) :p

Ah yea sorry I forgot to mention I will be ordering the Magahalems at the same time.

Ok so I am about to order the Magahalems HS, a Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 for the fan on it and the CM-690 II Adv.

Any objections? :P

Dude, i found some benchies pitting the megahelams against the Thermalright IFX-14. The IFX-14 came out on top and iirc is cheaper on ocuk.
My 930 running at 3.85GHz, is approx 38°C on idle and approx 58°C on load, and the fan i stuck between the grills (taken from the case side) is ultra quiet.

I bought this case last week, have no quarms whatsoever with it at all.

Starting to think I need to get a air cpu cooler though, I have a cosair H50 at the moment and no matter where I put the rad or how many times I reseat it my temps are never below 46oC idle.

But compare that to my old case (antec 300) where my idle temps were always 52-56 and it's a hell of a loss just from a new case.

i7 920 @ 4Ghz

LOL just ordered the Megahalems.

If my research was correct though, the contact of the Megahalems was better on the Q6600 then others. Even though others are better for i3, i5 and i7, I believe I read that the Q6600 was better with the Megahalems then other HS.

I would imagine that would only be true if you were ultra precise with the way you apply the thermal paste surely?

Either way, i'm sure you wont go wrong weith the Megahelams.

the first thing i did with this case is replace the fans.

What fans did you get? I kind of want to stay away from fan controllers as I want my case to be as subtle as possible. I was thinking of getting some more Apache Blacks with the 4Pin to PWM Pin converters.
