Watched this movie last night. It is a true story and I highly recommend watching it.

Today I can't help but read more about this interesting young man, I think his story is truely inspirational and stories like this interest me. Yes he wasn't properly prepared but, imo his attitude to just drop society and go out exploring the world and nature is fantastic.

I feel sympathetic for him looking at pictures of his adventures from the Magic Bus but at the same time happy - it's hard to explain.

Hats off mate - Glad you found your happiness :)

Saw this film last year i think, absolutely loved it. Went out and picked up the book by John Krakuer, really good read

Definitely one of my favourite films

Have to agree. I watched it a while ago and I was welling up at the end. Thats not happened since Lassie Come Home. Great film, story and a real eye opener. i travelled extensively but never liek that, always knew i had somewhere to go home to. Drop everything and watch it now. Then sell everything.

I did the same. Watched the film and then read the book. I know it's backwards but I wanted to know more after the film. :)

I really enjoyed the film too, though I have mixed feelings about the message.

The gist of the film seems to be that the guy thought that happinesss can only come from the world around him and his direct experience of it, and that other people were irrelevant to this.

By itself this is a bit childish but to make matters worse the film clearly shows that he gave happiness and left something important with everyone he met on his travels - fixing the relationship of the hippies, giving non-sexual love to the girl, inspiring a spirit of adventure in the old dude. This builds up to the end of the film where finally, on the brink of an unfortunate death he finally realises that happiness can come from human relations and people to share experiances with.

I mean WTF? What an idiot!

He's a really inspiring character in a lot of ways, but the film also makes him out to be a bit of a self-absorbed emotional cretin which somewhat ruined it for me. :)

I didn't get that message at all from the film, if anything I just interpreted the film as the simple telling of this guy's story/journey.

Real people are flawed.

Watched it last year. Good film, but pretty sad really. Yes I looked up all sorts of stuf on the net afterwards, as It is a film that makes you a bit curious about the whole thing.
