Seems unlikely. Why would aliens want to investigate one of our volcanos anyways? Plate tectonics are likely a constant on any planet harboring life so aliens wouldn't need to check out ours. Besides I think after travelling a zillion light years they would have higher priorities like abducting people for study.

If it was a UFO I'm a bit annoyed with them! Was the Flight Ban still in place at this time? Putting there passengers at risk like that! Wouldnt catch BA doing that sort of thing!
