Anyone gardening this year if so what will you be growing (food not flower)

Just bought a 4 tier greenhouse thing for £12 from wilkinsons. Full of stuff now out the back of mine now. Should keep some warmth in as its got a cover. Think ill need to buy another one in a few weeks as theres no way it will grow 15+ plants lol. Ill get pics up tomorrow as not too well atm.

Got garlic, some shallots, potatoes and a few cauliflower in already outside. Tomatoes and peppers in growbags in the greenhouse. Broccoli, sugarsnap peas, french beans, lettuce in pots in the greenhouse to start them off early, but will also plant more outside later. Will get some courgettes and mini-cucumbers going shortly for the greenhouse.

Yum :)

This is what i bought and setup which is easy as hell and took it outside, stuck some bricks round as i do hear they can blow over in strong winds so thought id do that just to be safe.

Defo not bad for £12 tho when similar ones go for 20 quid at say B&Q.

i bought a tomato house from wilkinsons but starting to think its a bit big but it was only 8 quid and i couldnt resist, will be sticking cucumbers vines inside and gardeners delight tomatoes

last week i planted carrots, onions and leak. only got a few meters worth of space so cant plant much, this is my first go at growing veg.

Today the mini greenhouse was all misty and when i unzipped the front and lifted up it was dripping. Is it ok to have humidity like that? Should i be worried?

Poped my hygrometer in the top bout 20 mins ago, gona check readings of min and max in the morning for night time readings then reset and see how the day checks out for temps and humidity. If humidity is over 65 i might unzip the front a bit to get some air circulating in a bit to help bring it down.

i have three prairie fire chilli plants growing at the moment, here are their final 9 inch pots, which according to the blurb on the back of the seed packet, are big enough :p

edit: i may seem a bit hasty to put them in their bigger pots, but the peat pots i had them previously in were suffering from a serious fungal/bacteria problem. so had to get them out of there ASAP. they dont grow very big these plants anyway.

aparently spider mites are white , red , yellow or green depending on how old they are/time of year
http://www.bonsaigarden.net/control_of_red_spider_mites.html

that article has a few simple suggestions might be worth trying
Spray Recipe #1
Blend together the following
½ cup of starch or flour
½ cup milk
1 gallon water

When sprayed over the mites this mixture will trap them as it dries into a thin film. Repeat every 4/5 days until control established. Check plants daily to ensure effectiveness. Dead mites will turn black so are much easier to see.

Had a look under my new 60-100 scope, hard to find but i saw somit black with bright orange legs with bits on their legs. They looked long bodies i think.

Thanks for info i think i got some self raisin flour left so ill give that ago although only got 2ltr bottle so ill have to work out the recipe for 2ltr water version.

Wow I planted 5 butternut squash seeds on Friday, from a squash I was munching on. Bloody hell one is a fast germinator/grower.

Finally some action on the mushrooms. Most of those white specs are tiny tiny mushrooms.

Few questions, what final size pot will I need for butternut squash?

also whilst digging up the raised bed I found it has a concreat base about 7-8" under the top of the soil.
Is there anything which will not grow on that? Assuming root crops might be a problem?

Interesting - are mushroom easy to grow? Did you buy one of those growing kits?

Yeah £5 kit from asda, says it can be used 3 times before being dumped on the garden.
So far it's been easy that's taken about 6 weeks. Will see what the yield is before I say they are easy to grow though. As the white pin heads seem to be quite blotchy around the compost, I imagine it should be covering the whole area. As you can see left hand side only has one line of pin heads, where the rest is pretty much covered.

Where did you get it from? Looks perfect for what I need at the moment. I've re potted all my 20 chillies and tomato plants and now my window ledge is far too small to house them all. Could do with something like that to put them all in during the day and then move them back inside at night.

Would that house 20 x 1 litre pots?

I guess i could get a few and then remove some shelves when the plants get bigger and then keep them in there.
