Aching Legs?

My work involves standing for about 8 hours per day. I don't do much exercise on a day to day basis other than walking around a lot. Probably about 3-4 days a week, my legs will ache pretty severely when I get home until I go to sleep. I feel fine during the day, have decent shoes, my feet are fine, but my legs kill! :(

It just feels like growing pains, but I'm 20 now and I'm pretty sure I'm not growing in any direction other than outwards anymore!

Anyone had similar experiences? Advice?

Probably gunna go see the doctor about it, but just wanted to ask you guys first...

Thaaaaanks :)

How long have you worked there? Are you active/physically fit?

Simple things you can do is to stretch before your work, and stretch during your work, and stretch after. You can try hot baths, which'll help with the muscle soreness. Are your shoes providing enough support?

Things like that. I've just started work and I walk between 5-10 miles a day and my legs are really sore by the end (8-10 days) and I'm a little unfit and my shoes suck.

Your logic is flawless, but slightly impractical :p
It's so easy to condemn, so hard to create!

I used to have to stand up all day too. My legs were ok but it felt like the bones in my feet were stabbing through my soles. It took about two hours every night for the pain to stop and normal feeling to resume. My only advice would be grin and bear it, sit down whenever you get the chance, hope your legs get stronger.

Been doing the job on my feet for a bit over 6 months now, but it's only been happening within the last month or so. I've tried hot baths before and it does help, but I don't have the time to be lying around for long! Maybe I should more I guess? I'll give it a try. Feet are fine, they don't hurt at all.

Where abouts on the leg does it hurt?

Just the bottom half, knees included.

It has been quite a while now, and I got used to it after a few weeks, but it's just recently started aching on a regular basis; I don't understand why! :(

Sometimes I work on stand-up tills, and although my legs don't ache, I sometimes get nasty cramp. I just flex and stretch them a bit when customers aren't looking, tends to alleviate the pain :)

I suggest you go and see a doctor though.

I work weekends in a warehouse of a popular highstreet pc retailer as a merchandiser, which is three flights of stairs below the store, as part of my uniform I am required to wear suit shoes and a proper shirt - at the end of a weekend of 8 hour shifts running up and down i feels like my feet/legs/knees have been smacked about with a baseball bat. I feel your pain :(

When you see your GP, I would suggest getting him to refer you to a Physiotherapist, as they are generally better with this kind of problem...

If you get no joy from the Physio (although you should), you might want to go along and see either a Chiropractor or Osteopath and get your spine/pelvis checked...

still could get phantom limb syndrome.

LOL my beloved OH has this in his left eye - which he hasn't got

Anyway, my right leg has started to ache from the knee all the way down the shin to the ankle. I also stand for hours on end at work, but I've been doing this for 3 years so I have no clue why it should be starting now.

Maybe it's the volcano.........................................

were i work I m on my feet for 8 hours per shift, but I m also used as a runner (stock)

it might be because your legs are stiff (due to just standing) as I get that when I m tied to a station
