OcUK Photo Comp - Season Nine : Round Four - "Bokeh" DISCUSSION

Willis mate I really rate that shot of yours - gorgeous processing! I think the only downfall of it is that the flower your subject is focussing on is not in focus. Other than that - stunning.

Thanks mate but at 1.4 it was hard to get anything in focus :D The main focus point was on her face so from that point out everything else was going to get blurred. I'm thinking of changing it again anyhow ;)

Huh - I liked it because it has a seasonal quality about it -it reminds me in a way of the stereotypical Japanese cherry blossom shot. If you have something better then I'd be interested to see it!

EDIT: just spotted the change - it's nice - like it. Your subject has an interesting face - fits well for the style of shot.

Actually, found the said email last night and it wasn't sent by tbs so i do apologise for the mix up. It is someone here with a name starts with the letter T though, hence the confusion.

Anyone (no judges obviously) think either of these attempts is an improvement on my current entry? I have been out a ton with my camera this month and have been shooting with the comp in mind but I'm struggling to do something that I'm happy with. E.g. neither of these really feel like bokeh is the theme.

OK I've entered, and yes its grass :p

Personally here are the reasons I should win:

1) It's my first entry
2) You all know how irritating stinging nettles are and me crawling around a field in shorts meant my legs are pretty sore now.
3) Can't think of any other reasons, so refer back to points 1 & 2 :D

I love it. My laptop's desktop background is something very similar.

Thank you :) I know, I have a load of similar wallpapers, but with a theme like bokeh how original are we going to get :D I think (well hope) it fits the theme, I'm still unsure of which of the 4 I chose I will finally enter.

Haha, I had an almost identical pic as yours BluZiff, that I was going to enter if i couldn't think of anything better :D.

It was just a quick snap and I think the petals are blown out too much though.

I cant seem to think of anything for this months comp.

@tbs - you are not a judge, so for the second time, either enter the competition or leave it alone and stop picking fault with the entries.

So for the second time what? Yes, because entering a competition with a fake "bokeh" isnt breaking rules?

This

Still think he's upset cos he couldn't take the criticism some people gave him over his pictures in a previous post?

I dont think I did get upset, the most criticism I ever got was for my watermark which seemed to have more comments on it then the pictures themselves as far as I remembered.

@ tbs wtf? .... thread is for ENTRY'S only!

Why so serious kid? Seriously, it needed a "wtf"?

Just changed mine and you got to laugh at tbs this guy is just a idiot.

So how did you come to that conclusion?

This.

Whether its faked or not was there really any need to point it out in this way?

I thought entering a competition youre suppose to abide to the so called "rules" in the first place, why even bother to fake a "bokeh" and enter it? Might as well just find a bokeh picture on the net and post it up, be much easier then faking it.

Edit: I find it quite funny how this forum, especially the Photo Forum, you guys really do act like you are the dogs b*lls most of the time, there are obviously a couple of decent people who are willing to share and learn from each other and are happy to share knowledge about certain things, but the majority of you guys seem to enjoy inflating each others egos a little bit too much. Whether you would feel offended by that or not, Im sure what I said would rustle some of your feathers a bit.

I dont have hate for any of you guys, but the attitude/egos that some of you guys bring to this part of the forum I think you should just leave it at the door. I post in threads when I feel its worth giving opinion on and if not I wont bother posting futile comments, which a lot of you seem to do. If anyone thinks I got offended by the comments about my photos Ive posted in any of my threads, I really didnt, and as I said, I take every comment good or bad as a valuable critique to better myself and my work, but if some of you guys think that I did then I think you got the wrong end of the stick. My views and opinions might not be the same as yours but that doesnt mean that I dont understand or agree with where you are coming from with your comments.

Majority of you guys here seems to have a inflated egos over your own work, I do too but I dont have one as big as some of you, not because your work is great (some of it is far from being good) or because of the gear you have, its just the attitude that some of you think that just because youre a, Ill use the term "photographer" loosely, you instantly think you know everything there is to know, typical from most photographers I guess...

I use these forums to showcase some of my work and find crit and see what other people think, but the more I read through these forums the more I see that you guys are way too self involved with yourself and each other to have an open mind for discussion, which is why I have posted less in recent weeks, and again, not because of the comments I got in my threads if some of you still cant get it through your thick skull. And while I do bring up debates sometimes, they are more for opening up inspirations and just understanding each others POVs, but some of you guys seem to find it too hard to have a discussion and think its a p**** measuring contest when someone doesnt know something or doesnt understand something, which is what a forum is for, especially on a subject matter like Photography.

Some of you might just reply back "If you dont like it here, then dont visit this forum" which would be a typical response that Ill be expecting, and just because Ive said it now, Im sure no one will post it, but I can always hope, right?! Its not that I dont like it here, I just find that everyone here should just calm down with their "Richard" measuring, and focus on their photography rather then just calling people like me an "idiot" for no apparent reason.

Willis, I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that Im a "idiot" in your books, Id like a explanation if you do have one thats worthwhile to type out.

If you feel that this post came across angry, I can tell you, I am not one bit angry, but if you like that image in your head that I am, then be my guest.

@tbs you talk of rules in your first response, yet you posted in a entry's only thread? that was why i gave my response ;) (maybe wtf is a 'little' strong)
