Build up to Virgin London Marathon 2010

Calf a bit tight but was fine throughout todays run, plodding along at 8:20 min/mile. Will probably only do 2 other runs this week, tomorrow and wednesday just in case.

Hope the knee's ok, Lostkat.

Glad your calf seems to be ok for running on. Hope it doesn't impede your performance on Sunday.

Knee feels better today. Got really painful yest evening but I did my stretches and massaged the hell out of it and it seems to be working. I now have a monster bruise on my thigh where I pummled my quad, but my knee has been fine all day. I've done some more stretching & massaging tonight and see the physio tomorrow. It would be nice to manage 1 last run. It's been 5 days now!! :-(

Cheers, off for some last minute/panic physio tomorrow, just in case.

Although it's annoying don't worry too much about not running this close to the race as you'll have the endurance in the bag already. Running now will only just keep you ticking over and you'll not lose any fitness.

just dropped in to say - best of luck

Just started some running last week myself and would love to one day run a marathon so all the best to you guys!!!

Aye I know. It's more for peace of mind than anything that I'd like at least 1 last run. All being well I'll do it tomorrow. Knee feels good today and physio was happy with progress and said I didn't need to see her. Going in weds for a 'pre event treatment' which is designed to loosen everything off and prepare my poor legs for the hammering they're going to get :D I have been stretching and massaging my legs tonight, then it's a small run and stretching tomorrow. Feels so odd not running!!!

Feeling confident for a pb then?

Thanks for the wishes booyaka :)

Well saw the physio today and he seemed happy, although its sore to poke it seems fine doing calf extensions, hoping about on it etc. Will have a gentle few miles tomorrow then save it for Sunday.

Should be fine for a PB if the body holds together on the day... famous last words.

Have a good run tomorrow and don't forget to post some last minute excuses before heading down south :p

Hopefully 2 v. happy runners will be posting here next week :)

I just ventured past 10km for the first time with a comfortable (but still tiring!) 15km in 1:19 so I have a lot of admiration for you guys and hopefully one day I'll join you.

On a side note, having never done an organised event, do you guys have mp3 players with you and if not, how do you stop boredom?

Good luck!!

I'd better pack a cap! What else am I missing... running gets complicated when it's away from home. Getting excited now though. :)

15km in 1:19 is a fair pace to be honest

Don't use an MP3 and never get time to be bored, constantly running the stats regards pace etc during a race. When I'm training I just drift off......

The last two 10k runs I've done have both said no MP3 players in the race pack, yet I've seen people running with them.

I use my iPod on solo training runs all the time though.

Please, please don't use an MP3 player in an organised event. People that do really wind me up because they don't know what's going on around them and get in the way!

Good to hear all your marathon prep guys. Ran Brighton marathon (1st one for them and me!) last week, it was hot i can tell you. Did it in 4.33 which, although a little slow, I was proud of as the last 10 miles or so were done through grim determination!

My mate did it in 3.33 but ended up in a wheelchair at the end! Some great video footage of finishes which I never tire of looking at.

Going to London to help with Alzheimers runners on Sunday. Looking forward to watching with a new found appreciation for the pain! Good luck! (might stick to half's from now on)

Good luck all for Sunday !! it looks like it is going to be quite hot so take care.

good luck lads !
*ahem* and ladies? :p

We came down to London yesterday. Collected my race number and all my freebies etc. at the expo yesterday. We had an Italian at a place on Blackheath Common last night and I saw then setting up the blue start. We also went down part of the route. It's all getting very real now!!

Going to get my number pinned on my vest and lay everything out this morn, then spend the rest of the day lazing around and drinking water before a 30th birthday party tonight. No alcohol for me and an early taxi home.

This time tomorrow I'll be at the start, preparing myself for my first marathon!

Good luck FB, hope you smash your pb. Have a great race :)
