Hybrid PhysX mod v1.03 is available

It's a right faff but it does work

Yep works no problem and no harder than installing drivers fro your card. I have been running it since it first came out.

If you have a nvidia card or get one cheap (like me) then its good to have physx in those games.

I would never buy a new nvidia card to have it as not worth it IMO.

It's not just like installing drivers for the card, it's not rocket science but you have to faff around to get it to work compared to just installing the driver for Nvidia GPUs

Whats it worth? We know that question will never be agreed upon in a forum.
Here is a nice video comparison in Metro 2033. Jump ahead to 1min to see side by side footage.

That grenade smoke looks really bad. And the particles from shooting the wall look really "weird" also... :/

Anyone with me? Am I the only one that thinks it makes it look weird? :/

And I SWEAR most of that you could do on the processor really easily... -_-

I'm with you on that, most of what I've seen of PhysX has been absolutely awful.

The smoke effects in rooms in 2033 are great and really improve the atmos of the game, I don't know if you get them with physx or not.

I liked the flags and destructable plastic coverings in mirrors edge but couldnt say they massively enhanced the gameplay

In general I'd agree physx is a bit of a let down.

I wouldnt mind a phsyx card for Mirrors edge but it's hard to find a cheap 9800 since everyone knows they make good phsyx cards and want to bend me over n shaft me ><

Is an 8800GTS 512mb worth even going through the hassle?

The PhysX doesnt actually look that impressive, but the card is sitting on the shelf doing nout at present.

I guess the real quiestion is will it negatively affect anything? My main game at present is BC2, Metro Im only really playing at weekends at present, doesnt seem to have a killer hold over me like Bioshock or Half life for that matter. Its great, but the hype has let it down abit for me.

Two "wrongs" don't make a right though.

No, it's utterly pointless though.

A GTX480 will do nothing for PhysX that a 9800GT can't do.

Add that to the fact that PhysX is a huge gimmick anyway.

It's like using £20s in your wood burning stove when you should be using wood.

OK OK I'll stop :) Sheesh when kylew doesn't get it you know you've been to obtuse.

Although there are some people out there who will go for the config I mentioned it wouldn't be me, not for that purpose.

Only Metro 2033 out of these 4 games makes a use of graphics card accelerated PhysX. I found PhysX effects not worth a while but you may like them more than I do.

Give it a try, it shouldn't have any negative impacts on your system although I encountered three problems when using PhysX card with ATI:
1) both cards were running quite hot which wasn't making me happy in any way
2) XFX GeForce 9600GSO is a one slot cooler version, what made it 'a bit' louder than mine 5850 is
3) I don't know if it is an already resolved issue but I had to make a virtually extended desktop to run PhysX card properly (even though I was using modded drivers for PhysX). It got slightly annoying that your mouse cursor doesn't stop at the edge of the screen :p

A 240GT = 9600GSO = 8800GS effectively
- yes, as for PhysX that is

If you're a PhysX freak and have crap loads of money, go for watercooled 480GTX SLI setup, do some benching and brag on Youtube about their performance in Metro 2033. £1000 worth of graphics cards should do well in any game out there. You could always cut the cost in half and get a 5970 but who the **** cares...

To be fair, time and time again my sarcasm sensor breaks when I've been awake past 20 hours. :D

It's happened multiple times in the same day a few times. :p

The mod posted on this thread negates the need to extend your desktop.

hmm, I got the morning off work, Just fired up Metro and remembered this. Im gonna do it.

My PSU is certainly more than enough, noise could be an issue as my new card has an EK block on it.

Oh well. Here we go.

Use fluidmark first to check you have hardware physx enabled.

Also the vantage cpu physics test, if you get <40 ops in that then you are on cpu physics (I get 90 ops for reference with my 9600gt)
