Off to look at some cars tomorrow and top of the list is the Mk3 Mondeo!

What do I need to know/look at? Looking at around the 4k mark so probably 04 plates I'd guess?

When was the facelift? What's the best engine to go for? (both petrol and diesel) What are the different trim levels?

Annoying questions but I suck at searching :(

the petrol/diesel paradox is mileage dependant so that one you can answer yourself

the facelift was around the middle of 2003 so everthing 04 onward will be the newer model.. there were a couple of revisions after that the dates of which i do not know!

Trim levels go lx>zetec>zetecs>ghia>ghiax>st220 with titanium/titanium x coming in later ( again im not 100% sure on this )

All of them are fairly well equipped ( 'leccy windows(front only on the lx)/ac/cd player etc) in terms of comforts/toys all came with cruise control, zetec and above got full climate control, ghia x gets you auto lights n wipers and heated/cooled seats.

Not a fully comprehensive guide to the mondeo range, you've probably worked that out by now, but it gives ya ... an idea i suppose.

If your going for petrols, be picky and get a good one and the mileage will be less of an issue and you will be more likely to get a high spec one in good nick.

Happy hunting!

About that but just get one on condition tbh rather than a certain reg. There are so many Mondeos around that you can hold out for a well kept one.

2003 iirc and the pre-facelift dash looks awful!

Get a 1.8-2.0 petrol. Family had loads of Mondeos and the 2.2TDCI unit had no end of injector issues leading to misfires.

Get a Zetec or Ghia, loads around. Avoid LX.

The best engine ,imo, is without doubt the V6*, as to if its a sensible option or not, well, thats upto you! :D

*GF Recently got herself a V6 Ghia and I am very impressed with it surprisingly good on fuel too.

not all of them did come with cruise control, my dad's mondeo does not have cruise control.

what spec is it?

should have mentioned that the base model replacement ( edge ) did away with the cruise control.

In my experience tho all facelifts ( lx, zetec etc ) have cruise fitted.

oh thought you meant all mk3 mondys, it's a 52 plate so guessing it's not a facelift. Can't remember what spec it is, its not a base model though, it has alloys, air con, etc. I know its a 2.0TD(i?) though.

No luck on mondeos today! :(

Found a Vectra, 2l diesel, Energy 5dr blah blah blah that looks ok. going up for 3900 once valeted. Worth a look?

Vectra was nice, although 2.0 DTi as opposed to the 2.2 advertised, until I got inside. Must have been blind yesterday! Hideous dash!

Had a quick look at a Mk3 Mondeo (2004, 53 plate, 65k) and instantly it's a better looking, nicer place to sit. A return visit is on the cards.

Seemed quite well specced for a Zetec too.

The fleet at work are all 2004ish Vectras. The 98hp DTi are pretty crap with no power at all, so much so that the 118hp 1.9CDTi feels so much better even though it is far from 'fast'.

As if someone listed a car as 2.2 and then it was the old 2.0DTi, what an idiot! Unless he is trying to sell the car as a better spec than it really is, which is dishonest.

Main Evans Halshaw dealer no less.

Not like it was hard to tell, badge on the car and log book both say 2.0DTi. Felt awful sluggish.

Now to wait for a Mondeo.....the one I looked at earlier seems a touch over priced (£4295 iirc) although I suspect that could be haggled down....

Possibly a touch overpriced, but it's from a dealer so if it has a good 12 month warranty then it would be worth it

Edit: hmm, just seen the towbar. While they make good tow cars, I wouldnt fancy a TDCi that had spent a lot of time towing something heavy. Occasional trailer use is fine, but regular heavy use could put a lot of strain on the DMF

Will certainly make a point of checking that when I go and have a look. I'm sure there's plenty more Mondeos out there though :p

About 4 million.

If that one isnt an absolute minter with a rock solid warranty then dont bother. I'd want a better spec one for the money, with the aforementioned warranty
