GeForce GTX 460 might launch June 1st - specs

It would make a lot of sense for NVIDIA to release the pending GeForce GTX 460 at June 1st, the start of Computex.

The card is likely to be positioned directly against ATI's Radeon HD 5850 and will be based on a P1025 PCB design, which is similar to the GTX 470. According ot the latest gossip tThe card will feature 384 SPs, 48 TMUs, 32 ROPs and 1024 MB of 256-Bit GDDR5

AIBs/AICs and ODMs will be free to design/redesign the card for customized versions. The card will get a 256-bit memory interface indicating 1GB of graphics memory (gDDR5).

So a 5850 is on par with a 470 for the most part, main difference being the 470 is overpriced, so Nvidia decide to bring out a lower performance part to compete against the 5850...:o 5850 or 460..hmmm, hard choice...not.

apparently so. perhaps it will clock decently....though I doubt well enough to match an overclocked 5850

Judging by the specs, a massive drop in performance from a 470gtx in terms of actual numbers, but that doesn't always turn into real world performance drop. IE the 5850 barely being slower than a 5870 clock for clock. However, a big bus drop, and a full 64 shaders less rather than a 32 shader drop.

I reckon it will be about as appealing as a 5830 in terms of performance, but, more expensive again and the 5830 is already a horrible value card that no one wants.

Don't care, we get screwed on prices which will make it automatically crap value for money, at least in America the 480 and 470 are viable for their price, here there's just no point.

Its not about bringing out a card to compete, they've clearly binned these wafers massively, once theres nothing available at 470gtx quality, they either throw the rest away, or sell as many cores as possible in whatever form they can.

We might even see a 450gtx with even less shaders, maybe another 64 drop, because they'll be desparate for two things, making as much money back as possible and also having any 4xx series cards appearing for sale anywhere for as long as possible.

This.

The US has them priced as follows:

5850 - $300
470GTX - $350
5870 - $400
480GTX - $500
5970 - $600

We have to pay some £40-70 on top of the price plus 17.5% VAT, which is highly unacceptable. These cards are already questioned in the US for their value, in the UK we have to pay much more for the same heaters.

We have freedom of speech in this country long as you don't say anything about the goverment.
So i won't say anything about the 17.5% Rip off tax we pay.

If the 460 is up against the 5830 which to me is over priced and under powered then it more likely fit in quite well but i do think there could be quite a big price drop if they wanted to with the 5830 until S.I. is out

Looks to me like it'll go up against the 5770/5830 as the GTX470 is already competing (badly) with the HD5850.

Even if it is competitive with the HD5830, the pricing needs to be right - and given the high end chips, I can't see it happening.

Not entirely accurate.

At current exchange rates

5850 -$300 = £200+VAT = £235
GTX470 - $350 = £230+VAT = £270
5870 - $400 = £260+VAT = £306
GTX480 - $500 = £325+VAT = £382
5970 - $600 £390+VAT = £460

Cheapest 5850 on OcUK is actually £10 cheaper than the reference price.

5870 is £3 more than US reference price. That's not to say I'm saying that makes them good value, but it's not a case of "rip off Britain" as people love to quote.

The gouging seems to be stuck on the GTX470(£310), 480(£446) and HD 5970(£496).

It's just a shame the exchange rate is so bad currently.

so if they've got all these sub standard chips lying around why not put 2 on a card and fiddle with them ? x2 range .or would it cost too much too us ?
