Hi guys,

I've just bought an xbox 360 from a friend and I'm trying to think of the best way to connect it to my monitor as it's better than my TV.

I have a 20" samsung pebble, it has a DVI in and a VGA in. My console has a HDMI out and I've got a HDMI to DVI out cable which I was thinking about getting a converter and using the VGA slot on the monitor (I know the picture won't be of HDMI quality). The other solution is to get something like a DVI splitter for the monitor and having both the computer and the xbox connected at the same time to the same port. The last option would be to get a DVI switch box which I could manually switch when I want to use a specific device (although I'm not really too sure on what I'd need for this, or even which one to buy)

I'm not really too sure on what my best option would be here so any information is appreciated.

Cheers

You know if I used a DVI to VGA converter and had them both plugged in at the same time (monitor and xbox) how easy would it be to switch from one to the other, or would I have to physically remove one of the cables?

Depends on your monitor, mine has two inputs and you can just flick between them with a button on the front.

Just get a vga lead, I've had a 360 twice and always used it with my pc screens. You'll be able to have 360 and pc hooked up with no adapters/mass of wires.

Ah yeah, mine has a source button, so it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter might be the way forward!

Question on this, I have a spare VGA lead lying about, does the xbox 360 actually have a VGA out socket? (I've not actually got the xbox yet, silly courier)

Cheers guys, appreciate it! :)

I've bought a "DVI-I Female To VGA Male Coupler Socket Plug Adaptor" so I can use the HDMI to DVI-M out and then use this to convert to VGA. Dammm, that's a lot of converting :)

you need to buy a 360 vga lead to connect your 360 to a monitor via vga

Ah right, cheers mate. I'll probably just try the HDMI out with the converts then, it's probably cheaper. The converter only cost me £5.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes when it eventually gets here :)

Xbox 360 VGA leads are £3.36 delivered on the 'bay...

I plug my PC into the VGA and XBOX into DVI. I did not notice a difference going from DVI to VGA with the PC.

Audio is handled by a dongle that cost me £8 online.
