How safe is it too sell on OCUK market place..

the one thing i hate and i mean hate about the MM is that once a item has sold a large percentage of people delete the price it was sold for and replace it as SOLD. Meaning if you do a search to see what other people got for the item you want to sell it comes up with nothing usefull.

DO NOT DELETE THE PRICE ONCE SOLD... PUT SOLD NEXT TO THE PRICE

Banned from MM for trying to sell a Wii HD cable for £45

2.5.1 - The Members Market Forums are for the use of private individuals to buy and sell their own personal property. Commercial Trading, i.e. buying and selling of items specifically for profit, is strictly prohibited. Anyone buying and/or selling excessive quantities of items will be deemed to be Trading and they will be banned from all OcUK Forums.

I seem to remember that's what you were doing, when they were in short supply.

While agree there's nothing really wrong with it if someone wanted to pay £45, it's clearly against the rules.

Can you use paypal on mm?

of course. it's a private deal between members. if you're selling, you can say you accept paypal only. or if you're buying most sellers usually advertise the fact they accept paypal as payment.

but then you get some old gits like me who refuse to use it. i always insist on bank transfer only as i don't have a paypal account and i don't want to create one. i know i'm in the minority though. :p

I've never had a problem, but the trust is an issue. I think I've only been left trust once or twice in around 10 transactions.

There's only one transaction that isn't accounted for in my trust, but that's because I gave someone something for free and I'm not really all that fussed.

yea and i wish people would put their location in the topic!

like
bits and bobs [NEWCASTLE]
i7 system split [london]
photography bits and bobs [devon]

sometimes ive seen people selling stuff i probably would have bought if it were fairly local

I need to get my act together and start posting more. I seem to spend most of my time reading the whole threads so i am not asking questions that have been answered several times earlier in the thread.

BTW.. how do i get access to the MM ? :P

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 250 posts and have been signed up for at least 90 days.
In the FAQ :)

MM is a great place for hassle free upgrades and doing the easyrider shuffle :p

(some of you will know this technique well :p)

I pride myself on my MM deals and my trust reflects this. I always make sure I pay when I say and post quickly.

I have never had any problems but you have to treat each deal with respect and in a mature sensible professional manner.

Bank transfer is the best way to pay or be paid imo.

I have used MM a few times. I like it because:

-No fees
-Low risk (I suppose someone could do a runner with your money, but if they have good trust and 10,000 posts I seriously doubt it).
-Getting to deal with significantly more polite and intelligent people than ebay.
-The item you buy is less likely to have intermittent faults and sold as 'fully working'.
- Turn around time usually very good, as items can sell within minutes rather than waiting 10 days or whatever on ebay for an auction.
- No Nigerians bidding and not paying. Money is normally paid by bank transfer so you have the money before posting. Can avoid Paypal if you like.

On the OCUK MM you may get a bit less for your item than ebay, but overall it usually works out ok as no fees to eat away at what initially seems a good price.
Also I cannot think of a better place to sell a high end cpu, fans etc

I've been using the MM since 2003 and haven't had a bad experience yet.
It's why I joined these forums originally, I didn't post in any other forum for years
(except the prerequisite needed to get into the MM, can't remember how many that was back then) - hence my low post count ;)

Nice trust feedback

I've only had one person not leave feedback out of 8 transactions, and I didn't push it. I tend to remind people in emails/correspondance, and the majority remember to leave feedback.

MM is a great place, because it is a lot smaller than eBay or HUKD buy/sell, there is less competition and you can haggle for some good prices every now and again :)
