ATI next gen tapes out

AA is a funny beast - at 2048x you don't notice a huge amount of difference between 4x and 16x in motion, but switch to 32x and the image is noticeably cleaner. Tho thats partly due to the superior implementation used for 32x.

If it wasn't for the fps hit I'd enable 32x forced all the time heh, I'm hoping with the next gen after the current it might be possible.

Really depends on the res and the speed of the game, fast and 4x is fine slower paced then 8-16 is preferable for me.

How much AA you need depends on the resolution in relation to monitor size, and how far you sit from the screen.

This. If you game at 1280 and sit back comfy-like in a chair anything beyond 4x AA will likely make no visual difference whatsoever. When it comes to reducing 'edginess' the diminishing returns come in quite hard fast.
