Anyone able to offer thier experiences with this chip?

I appreciate it's old by most peoples current rigs but I have been donated one and want to know if it will be suited in a SFF build I am working on.

Does it clock well at stock voltage, temp experiences, how it is in general pc/gameing use, generally if you have any experience with it I would love to hear it.

Thanks for any responce.

Hi Boff in, the E6600 is still a good cpu, would make a nice chip for a sff build. I had one a few years ago, my own chip done 3.6ghz, albeit it wasnt a great clocker, (might have been my 680i board). At 3.6ghz mine maxed out at 56c under an arctic freezer pro cooler. Voltage wise, your own chip will be different regarding clocking, gaming wise i found it to be fine at the time.

I'm still using an E6600 @ 3gig w/ stock voltage for my every day workstation, it handles everything effortlessly. If you want to overclock it tho an aftermarket cooler is reccomended - with the right cooler it will still run fairly cool well over 3gig.

They usually max out at 3.15gig +/- .05gig on stock voltage and will hit 3.3-3.6gig on sensible voltages depending on the chip. I ran one at 3.825gig w/ 1.65v (watercooled) for 24x7 useage for around 2 years including periods where it was running 24 hours at a time flatout doing map compiles and its still going strong in my media PC now. So they will take quite a beating tho I don't reccomend going over 1.45v if your worried about killing it.

Will be running it in a Zotac iTx mobo rated at 1333 so hope it does >3ghz as easily as yours have.

Will be on air and the board may limit things but looking forward to playing with it now, sounds like a nice chip!

Thanks for the advise, cheers!

I still run mine. Its @ 3.4Ghz and still going strong! Bought it when it first came out, bought the Tuinq, clocked it as much as I could without stupid voltages, and then its stayed at that for at least 2 years now!

Good chip but my old one did not do 3.6ghz.

It did run at 3ghz with a tiny voltage increase at a very good temperature.

I only upgraded my cpu as I am a gamer. For an SFF it would be more than adequate.

E6600 is a great CPU (looks at sig ;)).

It took me until last year to delve into the world of overclocking and upped my E6600 to 3.5GHz quite easily, it wasn't stable but it would have been had I taken the time (several days of meddling and testing) to find the stable-spot.

I'm now running it at a comfortable and modest 3GHz and have been doing so for over a year. I did have to up the Vcore more than most people have reported with this chip but I put that down to me simply not owning one of the great overclockable batch samples that a lot of people have been lucky enough to order. Runs between 35 and 45c (depending on ambient temp), reaches for ~50 very rarely on load.

In fact, I think half of the problems I had with overclocking were to do with my mobo (DS3 rev.1) which really contests any attempt at going above 350mhz fsb.

I really didn't need to go into such detail, it's a great processor and handles most games and odd-jobs without much effort.

Which board is that? my gigabyte P35 DS3R rev. 1 is stable to 515MHz FSB.

I might guess at the P965-DS3 because mine had similar limits and used to flake out at 334mhz fsb.

333 it could handle, just not 334 or up. Very frustrating when many people reported the same board as good for 400 :/
