Hi all, Currently i am running an old system which is

Athlon 64 x2 4400
2gb DDR
Asus A8N sli deluxe
ati 5770 vapour x

I am running this with a 550w coolermaster psu which i have had for 4 years and my pc is on nearly all day everyday.

I'm upgrading my system to

Amd phenon x2 550be
g.skill ripjaw ddr3 4gb
Asus M4A89GTD PRO AMD 890GX
WD caviar black 640gb hhd

Will my current psu be able to handle the new equipment despite its age and watts? i notice a lot of psu's are 700+ these days.

Also untill i can afford a proper cooler, how much of an overclock could i get out of the new cpu and would it be safe to unlock the other cores if they'll unlock?

Yeah the psu will be fine,

You might be to get a little over clock but it's always safe n better to over clock with a 3rd party cooler. An using the stock cooler it should still be safe to try n unlock the extra core if it let's you

Agree wth the above. Your current PSU will handle this upgrade. My No.2 rig has similiar spec (see Sig), plus 2 x 250Gb HDD's, 1 x 1TB HDD, 2 x Optical drives, 5 x 120mm case fans and a OC!

Your biggest power pull is the 5770 and it will be obvious by display quality if you are having any power issues.

PS. welcome to the forums :)
