Hi guys my parents are looking to replace their old sony hi fi system with a new one.

Would like a powerful unit with ipod dock and cd and radio compatibility too maybe even dvd.

Any ideas as to some good units out there as i havent got a clue?

hmm mkay.. for £300, i'd say you might be wasting money getting an all in one system. To me, all in one systems smack too much of systems from argos and alike, however your budget is far better than that.. i'l have a poke around on tinternet and see what i can find...

there are some all in one systems , minus speakers, on richersounds... for example http://www.richersounds.com/product/mini-hifi-systems/yamaha/crxd430/yama-crxd430-sil or http://www.richersounds.com/product/mini-hifi-systems/onkyo/cr435/onky-cr435-blk .

2nd one doesnt have an ipod dock. The power output of those isnt great, but may be adequate. People might advise you to buy a separate amp, for sound quality. for instance the cambridge audio a1 @ £70 ...

Then you'd just need some speakers, to fit your budget. I'm not 100% sure on the advice im giving, so wait and see what other peeps say...

From a brief look - To go hifi separates route, you'd be looking at £300-£500 http://www.richersounds.com/information/hifisystems . Better sound quality than an all in one...

Hey, on that sort of budget, a micro hifi could give you fantastic sound quality for your budget. My recomendation would be the Denon D-M37DAB, it delivers 30 watt RMs per channel and is very highly regarded as the best in that price range. I have heard it myself and think its fantastic. You have to buy a seperate ipod dock though, but its worth the outlay i reckon. Reviews can be found via google.
