I have been trying to get hold of a plumber to service my gas fire and back boiler. plus a couple of other jobs. Tried three local plumbers overs the last six weeks, none have ever turned up when they said. when ringing them up they always say they will come another day but never turn up!
My theory is that they have earnt all their money during winter and now can`t be bother to do any more work!
What do you think of tradesmen?

My advice is to only use plumbers, electricians, etc, that you've been recommended. I live and work on a business and we've been through loads of plumbers, one of which turned out to be good, and we now use all the time. But yes, there are lots that are slightly less than good. ;)

But like I said, only use people recommended by friends or family. :)

Tradesmen are what keep this country going. If it wasn't for them we would be sitting in a dark, cold, self built mud hut with no running water. God bless them all and pay them a kings ransom as they deserve every penny of their inflated prices.

Paul the spark :)

P.S. A plumber is someone not intelligent enough to become an electrician

I would love to hear your idea as to what a 'chav' is?

Ok sure fantastic generalisation of a made up word for people with no brain.

Sorry but I hate when people use this word all the time.

Not one plumber I know is a chav, they are all 40+.

Judging by your reply, i don't think you would.

In the absence or famliy or friend recommendations, I used www.ratedpeople.com to find an aerial fitter and roofer.

I love how some people in here think tradesmen are thick\chavs. My dad is a sparky and Im sure he could out class most people(intellect wise) on this forum with regards to 90% of things outside the world of IT.

Up your own arse much?

Having worked for a housing association I have build up a list of tradesmen for any job out there who I could easily trust :)

I've learned a few things from hearing stories about plumbers, their are a lot of good plumbers out their and an equal amount of plumbers who look for the easy route.

One thing I've learned recently is you could hire a gas safe/corgi registered plumbe, he'll say he will start the job, give you a price for the boiler, you pay it and he'll drop the boiler off.. then you're left in the lurch because he has scarpered and left you with a boiler and nobody to fit it.

make sure you get a Quote and you pay for the boiler and the work rather than paying for the boiler seperately.

a lot of registered plumbers are buying boilers for £600-700 and then selling them for £1k, easy £300.
