Paying in cash at the bank?

If its HSBC don't pay a cheque in on the same deposit slip, for some wierd reason it takes an extra day to show the cash deposit.

Not sure if this still the case though.

it could depend on the bank/account type. i can't use counter services with my halifax easycash account.

my hsbc is always instant though.

So if I do this, I'll be able to instantly drive down the road and pay for something on my card (hoping the money will have gone through)

Yes in theory.
Any reason you don't wish to pay for the item in cash itself?
Debit cards don't have the same card protection as creidt cards afaik, unless things have changed.

Just had a massive argument with my mum about it (me claiming it's instant) which resulted in me throwing a spoon in the washing up bowl which split it in half :(

I put a deposit down on a TV with a card and they would rather the transaction be made with the same card. Not sure why tbh.

It's instant for me when i go to HSBC. As soon as the money is put in VIA machine i quickly see if the balance went it on the payout machine.

You should be OK (I've done this in the past) but personally rather than faff about I'd just turn up with cash. If they want to sell it to you then they'd be really rather stupid to refuse payment. I've never heard of a shop insisting payment is by debit card rather than cash.
