Spent the day driving the new MX5 with the wife as she wanted a new car and wanted something small, nippy but not silly and cheap to run/insure. Placed an order for a new 2L Sport Tech Coupe, which should be with us in 2 or 3 weeks all things being well. It was this or the Abarth and I have to say the MX5 is a better car in my mind. Slow but fantastic fun just as I remember. Colour is Aluminium (errr, Grey) and it will look like this.

Went coupe for the simple reason it's a little less noisy inside and is even easier to up and down the roof, not that the standard MX5 is that hard. Oh, another coming soon all being well, but that is a racer not a road car.

That looks a rather decent car, much much better choice than the Abarth, the MX5 is way more special. Very nice. Out of interest what size wheels is she coming on? I remember Evo making some noises that the larger wheels don't work so well.

I was having a nose around Aeros mk2 MX5 yesterday, the seating position felt as good as you would want from a sports-car, easy entry, the gearbox in a perfect position & a suprisingly decent sized boot.

Interrresting! :)

Very nice. Folding hard top would be the one I would want even if the purists get their knickers in a twist over an extra few kilos.

The Abarth has a genuine appeal and I think Fiat have built a lovely little super mini to look at but the car underneath is, in reality, middling. Looks epic but the interior and drive are not all that, but it is great fun no question. Fact is the MX5 is fantastic fun to drive and simply meets all the elements my wife wanted. I could have gone and bought an SL, Z4M or other such car for the money but in reality she wanted an MX5 and having driven it at length today I was happy with that. Cracking little skate, not quick by even modern saloon car measures, but fantastic fun with lovely controls and steering, brakes and chasis that deserves the plaudits.

To be fair the original MX-5 roof is a work of genius but the folding top is even simpler, doesn't offer any genuine disadvantages to performance of handling and is a fantastically clever device that takes no more boot space. Clever.

But then again you have no boot + your car is a pita to get out of. (still want that ride though!)

Looks very nice op what was your choice on the interior?

Never been a huge fan of MX5 looks, always looked a bit tame to me

They are old school. They provide a smile at slow speeds and do it brilliantly. I would rather my wife drive something like this than 400bhp and roring to be honest, it's not for me.

I said it LOOKs tame.
Something like a Z3/4 or S2000 or whatever looks more aggressive from a purely visual POV
