wondering what opinions are on this car? I took the R36 for a test drive yesterday (they didnt have a CC VR6 available for test drive) and I was extremely impressed with it. The CC VR6 comes with the same engine and pretty much the same setup I believe, just the R36 has an uglier, wider body and slightly different suspension.

Bullet fast, incredibly smooth gear shifts, no shortage of power though I only took it to 120 but seemed as if it would get to the limit with ease. I'm assuming this is the same for CC VR6

I was thinking of picking one up new in the next few weeks, the 2010 model has the lovely DSG gearbox, fully loaded with sport suspension.

For the price, which speaking with the dealer, is going to be roughly £32k I can't see much else in its league which comes even close.

CC VR6 Specs:
3.6 litre
300 bhp
270 lb.ft
19" Sport Premium Alloys
nappa leather, aluminium and vienna wood trim, Navsat, Distance Sensing Cruise Control, Rear Parking Camera and a bunch of other goodies

Like the R36, they make a terrible new car buy... For precisely the reason they make a good second hand buy, the depreciation is quite shocking.

I love my R36, but I could never recommend someone buy a new one, and the same applies to the V6 CC.

Yea im not too concerned with the depreciation aspect, I'm planning on having it for 4 years+ and I prefer new over second hand. Just prsonal preference.

I'm looking more for thoughts on the car itself, anything i might not have picked up in reviews.

did i miss a joke or something?
Not really, but a thread about buying a new Passat for over £30k is only going to end one way.

Edit: To be a bit more helpful - the Passat CC is a fundamentally solid car but paying over £30k for a brand new V6 powered one is far from a good idea. There are plenty of other options.

That's fine, as long as you're aware of the significant depreciation :)

I've not had a play in the CC, but if you want my thoughts on the R36, let me know. It would also help to know what you're moving from, and what your expectations are :)

Please elaborate. For the specs on offer, options included, engine size etc there doesn't seem to be much comparable that I've come acros. A similarly spec'd 3 series would be much more expensive, same for audi or mercedes. And Clarkson himself said the CC v6 is better than a base CLS (25k more expensive)

The only other car I can think of in the same class would be an Infiniti G37 fully loaded, but that's going to be much more expensive and in my opinion doesn't look as good.

Would you absolutely not consider an even slightly used car?

Love the engine and chassis, but.. the car looks... well like the unwanted offspring of the mating of a vauxhall vectra and a jaguar... to call it bland would be flattering.

yet the passat suffers worse depreciation even though its a cheaper car with the same options as an equivalent BM / Audi.

surely thats not all badge related?

Actually it pretty much is, much like the Phaeton's depreciation.

It's image, not the car itself, that's the problem, as pretty much every review states.

Yes please your thoughts on the R36 would be very much appreciated as from what I understand it's almost the same car, the CC is just styled to suit a different buyer (the kind that looks at the CLS type 4 door coupes)

As for what I'm moving from, well my situation is a little unsual. I live with a bunch of close knit friends and up until now we all basically car pooled and used to buy cars together so we have between us a 3.0 2008 X5, 3.2 quattro Audi A5 2009, 2006 BMW 330ci, Honda Civic Type R 2006. I'm starting a new job however which means I'll be moving away and will need my own car.

Do you live on mainland UK?

No I'm based in the Middle East for the past 2 years, Qatar to be exact, and the market for used cars just really isn't the same as the UK. Plus you're never really sure what you're getting over here if it's second hand. 95% of people just buy new which isn't a problem as i said, as im planning on having it for 4years or more

thats an odd arrangement, even for Motors!
