Hi guys,quick question....
Im thinking of buying a 980x and some watercooling parts for my pc from the USA,will i have to pay extra tax when they are delivered to my home?
Thanks

If i was order these parts, how would i be caught? If they came from USA and delivered to my door i dont understand how i could be caught.

Because they will look at the label on the box and it will say what the contents are and see how much it is insured for.

As in if the courier realises the full value of what you order. You can get sellers to mark items as a lower value and as a gift but itlf they get lost/damaged in the post you'll only get back the value stated.

When buying overseas take the price paid and add a third on for simple calculation of taxes/customs and courier customs handling fees

So what if i order something of ebay.com?Bah,thanks for the advice,im going ahead with my order anyhow,if i get stopped for it,i will just tell them to take it back and ill get a refund.

Tell them to take it back? You'll still have to pay the shipping charges there and back, if you're lucky. If not you won't get a refund at all.

lol what?

Right....

Depending on the postal company it comes through in the UK, if you are caught and have to pay taxes and extra duty etc

1) The items will be held at the depot until you pay

or

2) They will come to you with the items and give you a bill to pay before handing them over

I've had both of them happen to me.

If you refuse delivery and get them sent back to the US I'm going to guess that who ever you bought them for will charge you for the delivery back to them and also a restocking fee.

Maybe ask them to mark down the items, different description, faulty / spare part goods something like that. Stating items as gifts does not work as much these days. And I would not buy an Intel i7 980x off EBay!!

In my experience yes. But depends on the supplier and how well they fill in the customs label. Goes without saying if the parcel goes missing then you are caught with your trousers down but that is the risk you take -- of course.

marking as a gift increases the threshold value by a small amount that is all

Yeah i dont like using Ebay, have not had a lot of experience with it,Amazon is loads better...there has to be a simple away around it...like you say...asking seller to mark it down as different.i have sent the seller an email which they will read tomorrow, ill see what they say and post here.

Have ordered overseas many a times. Not sure about fedex but I dealt with dhl who I imagine would be the same. Some couriers hold onto the item until you pay the 'release' fee. Some deliver the item then send you the invoice for your custom charges a few weeks later and if you avoid paying they will proceed with debt collection via debt collecting agencies who will proceed with court proceedings
