Well, instead of doing the whole "i need help with a new car, what can i buy for X amount" crapola. I just kept it all to myself. Have had the car near enough a month now and in all honesty i cant complain about a single thing about it.

Here's some pics:

Now, i know its obviously not going to be to everyones tastes, and to be quite honest i dont care :). At the end of the day I went out with a set budget and some required specs and this seemed to fit everything i was after a treat.

For those of you that dont know what it is, its a '56 Astra Twintop, 1.8 sport.

I previously had a Swift Sport, and after hooning around in one of those for nearly 3 years, i wanted something a bit more civilised and something that is a little more comfier for long distance driving. Also, parts for the astra are a damn sight cheaper than the swift along with the running costs.

Let me know what you think :)

I quite oddly like the twintops, a friend of mine had one (although, he's as queer as a nine pound note :D) and it was great fun to cruise around with the top down. The roof worked well (if not a little over-engineered imo), and everything else was, well, like any other Astra.

It won't be received well on here though, other people seem to have a vendetta against the Astras and in fact Vauxhall in general.

This sort of thing always amazes me. I mean you cant find a single thing you dont like about it? Really?

Was this another 'find a pretty picture of a car in a magazine, dont test drive anything else, test drive only this car, find it amazing because last car was a Swift, then buy' purchase? :p

I guess its the same as thinking that a Nokia 5110 is the best phone ever. It is - if you've never touched another phone.

I'd have kept quiet tbh. ;)

For what you have spent on it, consider what - with some of the sensible advice found on here - you could have had.

I drove a 1.8 Astra once. It was gutless, and that was a hatchback, nevermind all the folding metal roof clobber

Good car, have had my 1.8vvt Design TwinTop for 2 years now and am looking at trading it in for a S2000. Mine has served me well, I hope yours does the same.

Edit: No doubt if you wanted a 3 Series or Mondeo this is the first place you would have asked advice ;)
