Well I'm fairly settled on getting a Z4 roadster and now in need of advise. I've been looking at around the £12,000 range and there seem to be quite a few apparently nice examples around (although lower is obvioulsy better).

First of all is the 3.0i worth the extra over the 2.5i? People seem to say that the costs (mpg, tax ect) of a 3l over a 2.5l are minor so go for the 3l.

Next are there any totaly essential extras or any you could easily go without?

Finally what to look out for on the actual car / history. I've heard that roof motors are prone to failing.

Thanks!

The 3.0i will cost almost exactly the same to run as the 2.5i, although it is Group 19 insurance.

Not really any essential extras for the 3.0i as its well specified with leather, electric memory seats, etc etc all standard. Roof motors will fail as there is a design flaw, so dont buy one without a decent warranty unless you fancy a 4 figure bill.

the guy at work has one of the early ones and has problems with the power steering when it's hot and the boot gets wet when it rains, both are known issues. Also, the place where the roof motor sits can get full of water too, on the early ones, wrecking it. So probably best to avoid the first rev's.

Electric memory seats aren't standard on the 3.0i

At least they certainly weren't up until 2007, which is roughly the age he'll be looking at, at his price range

But yeah, definitely enquire about the roof motor, a few Z4's here at work, and a couple have fallen to it

Errr, lol?

Electric Memory seats are standard equipment on all 3.0i Z4's. Both non SE (Which are the first 6 months of production) and SE (October 03 onwards).

Do you want a scan of the build sheet for our Z4?

Please do explain why you don't think this is the case, and why you think I'd post wrong and misleading information?

Ok my mistake, last time I sat in my mates car I swear he didn't have them, but I just asked (rather loudly across the office) and turns out he does, but they were busted when he bought it and he just hasn't got them fixed. So I just assumed he didn't have them

Stop jumping on the defence the minute someone questions you :p I wasn't suggesting you were purposely posting incorrect information, but this is a forum, not everyone posts 100% correct information all the time

If you want I have 2 A4 pages of what to look out for when going after a Z4..

That was from OcUK and Tommo's advice and I will be using it tomorrow. ;)
