Potential employer wants to add me to Facebook

I would decline it. Facebook is for friends not for Potential Employers :D

And chrisxuk then you might as well just decline it :P? Does the same thing. FB doesn't send someone a message (i don't think so anyway) saying "Person X has declined you to be a friend"

A potential employer has declared their intention to spy on your private life as much as possible.

Up to you how you respond to that. I wouldn't like it, regardless of what was on my facebook page (if I had one).

not deny it, but not accept it until you have the job.

reason being companies are very critical of people who abuse employers on facebook etc and that can potentially lead to conduct issues or in your case employment issues.

if he sites why you haven't done so just answer truthfully: 'you aren't my friend as i barely know you. i am very select about my friendships and i hope that could develop but it depends if you give me the opportunity to do so.'

I would accept it, because it would prove I'm not a retard, which would hopefully improve my chances of getting the job.

That might not be the case for you, who knows.

Well if you set up your privacy settings correctly you can prevent them from seeing everything from your wall and friends to photos and albums.

Then it would be pointless accepting him would it not?

I'd just ignore the request and say you don't use facebook anymore.

Dony deny it but dont accept it either. Just ignore it. If you get asked why it hasnt ben accepted then just reply with "I rarely use facebook so never noticed."

If he leaves the request in limbo they can still see certain things on his profile because unless denied it shows certain notification to the requester. So he would still have to be mindful of what ever he does.

Personally, I'd say it depends on how much you want that job and whether you're happy to work for someone who is that intrusive.

What you can do is accept the invite, then create a group with minimal access to your profile. Stick them in the group and you're set.

Out of interest, is it a corporate profile or just a person within the company?

It doesn't, but, it does show that you have declined. Any request that are not accepted or declined stat in a state of pending. Declining allows the person to resubmit friend request.

As suggested though, use linkedin instead :p

Automatic decline imo, none of my superiors are listed as friends on facebook and thats the way it is gonna stay. Can lead to all sorts of complications.

And this

Do you even want to work for a company that adds you to facebook after 10 mins?

Massive alarm bells
