As above, after a new stereo to link my iPod to. Must support all functions inc playlists and very important - the ability to search for tracks, ect and touchssreen is preferred.

Found a load of stereos that claim to be iPod compatible but cannot find detailed spec sheets, just wondering if anyone on here has got a really good iPod stereo !

Look forward to recommendations and advice !

Looks like a nice screen there, does that allow you to search for tracks ? I'm a spontaneous person and always have the need to listen to a certain track.

I have an Alpine X305 too and it's fantastic. I think the easiest way to describe how it works is that it operates almost identically to an iPod (Classic type - rotate the dial, press the centre button etc)! The Ergonomics/UI are absolutely spot on

I've got the X305S (newer version of the X305) and it's pretty good. The important thing for me was the navigation of tracks as I've got a 64gb touch which is pretty full of music so it was essential that I could find stuff. The Alpine certainly fits the bill plus it also charges my iPhone which is handy for when I'm running low on battery (not sure if the older X305 charges the iPhone too?)

What features does it have? can you search like you would on a iPod touch ?

Wait.. There's a newer version? :( *buys*

You can navigate by track, album, artist, genre, playlist, whatever.. Not sure on actually searching though! You can skip through the above lists via the letter of the alphabet as well

Looks nice but I fancy one that is all touch screen, could do with a 5" touchscreen that connects to my iPod - Shame such a things does not exist lol !

There are tons of head units, just wanted some recommendations.

I couldn't find an easy answer anywhere. What are the differences between the X305 and X305S. Im slightly annoyed as i bought the X305 not all that long ago.

Had this for over a year. Its a great head unit, works with the ipod flawlessly, very easy to use. Only gripe I have is that you sometimes have to scroll through a lot of songs to get something if looking alphabetically. Most of my stuff is playlisted though so not a problem. Overall I really like it. Got it for free as well hehe :D

I've had a few stereos with iPod connectivity now and this is by far the best when it comes to navigating through songs. It's almost identical to the iPod itself, you just twist the scroll wheel on the front and voila.

My only real gripe is that it can sometimes be a little slow to search through loads of tracks. For example, if I was on letter A and wanted to get to letter W I'd have to press the scroll wheel in, twist it and it would then take maybe 2 seconds per letter so it might take a minute to get to the letter I want.

I think the only real difference is that mine supports the Pandora app on the iPhone, don't think there's anything else really.

The prospect of using a touchscreen to search for tracks while driving is....scary :p

I can just about text on my mobile using a touchscreen while walking, just about....few close calls with some various street furniture, lampposts and other people!

Can you search on the iPod? If you want to use an iPod as opposed to a USB Flash drive for input then I would hazard a guess that the HU wont be able to search the device if the device cannot search itself.

This is just a guess though!

yea I search on my iPod all the time, that's the main way I find tracks. Especially while I'm getting playlists, ect setup.

I've got an Alpine IVA-W502R which works really well, full speed iPod control, shows album art and even plays videos on the move. :) You can search the iPod by Artist, Album, Genre, etc - basically the same controls as on the iPod itself, and just as fast.

Never had this with mine, and I have a LOT of music on my ipod :)

FYI you can go backwards through the alphabet ;)
