Hey all,

After a good cleaning session I thought I'd share some pics. Excuse the messy interior. I didn't get round to hoovering it out.

Enjoy:

Yeah it's not the most exciting car to drive. I'm not sure what it's meant to be good at. Nimble and a laugh it most certainly is not. It's also not great as a long distance cruiser because it's too loud and bad on fuel.

What's the point in this car? I guess it's fine to just cruise about in knowing you have the power available if you need it.

Want comfort and luxury? Buy a BMW / Mercedes

Want great fun to drive? Buy an MX5 or 182

MR2 Turbo ???

Not being funny or obnoxious here but why the hell did you buy it LOL ?

looks very nice, but how does it compare to the mx?

It's a lard ass and can't be compared with a properly turbo'd 5 in the 'fun' stakes. It ain't the same ballpark, hell, it ain't even the same sport ;)

It's comfy and quickish, which is fine. This is running 12psi with an HKS mushroom filter, gutted cat and blueflame exhaust. I'm not sure how much power it has.

The butt dyno feels a wall of torque that trails off further up the rev range, and to be honest it feels a bit weak sauce. Maybe a trip to the rolling road will reveal whats happening.

You sir just came across as a plank.

Did you even test drive the thing before you bought it?

It was pretty! And it is in amazing condition. I might bond with it, but at the moment its a bit 'meh'.

I don't think I'll lose money, so why not have it for a wee while? At the very least its another car I'll have had first hand experience with.

To be quite honest I can't think of a better all-round car for £2,500 - £3,000. If I got another MX5 I'd feel compelled to modify it and spend a fortune, which I don't want to do at this moment in time.

The opinion you get from a test drive can be very different to how you feel a week/month/year later.

I like to read negative opinion on cars as well as positive ones, gives a bit of balance. Much better than the usual sequence of- "My car is the best ever" > person buys new car > "My last car was crap because of x,y and z. This is perfect." > buys another car > "I hated x,y and z about my last car..." and so it goes on.

Forgot to say that it does look very nice.

i know where salami is coming from.

one day last year it occured to me that i needed (read: my life depended on getting) an audi S4.

i "knew" what i was getting, i went in with my eyes opened. test drove them and bought one.

i was left with a suitcase full of "meh". i think id built the car up to be such a hero in my mind that i was totally convinced it would solve all my car needs, but its dull to drive compared to the golf.

it has taken 6 months to "bond" with it and to appreciate its "charm" (you can take such obsurb liberties with this car, it is really quick) and its all so effortless. effortless = yawnfest, even when you reach unhuman speeds, effortlessly on roads you really shouldnt

i do miss the golf, but the S4 does still make sense

i dont think car buying is a complete science. the S4 was definately bought with the heart

this forum is full of that.

I had the same thing.

My VXR was a car bought with heart, a bit of guilty pleasure that stemmed from when they were first announced around 5 years ago, when I finally got in a position to actually buy one I absolutely loved it. Yes, it wasn't perfect, but being a 'heart' purchase, it just made sense.

When I found out Lauren was pregnant, I took the opportunity to get something a little bit more sensible with five doors, at the same time as upgrading. I bought the ST with my head. The car is better in every way, its faster, handles better, offers more grip, is better built, more comfortable, more reliable, more practical and actually costs me less to run than the VXR (on insurance alone). But, it just doesn't feel as special as the VXR, and its taken me this long to really 'bond' with it - its certainly a bit of a love-hate relationship I have with my car, even now.
