Something I sold was apparently stolen from the post office before delivery so obviously the buyer wants a refund. I have filled in all the paper work to make a claim but at what point do I refund the buyer? Ebay were useless when I rang them.

(I have a crime number so dont think they are trying it on.)

Refund him now. Your gripe is with RM.

Could you try and defer until the Post Office or insurance company reimburses you?

Alternatively you could refund him now as long as you have the credit, in the long run it's no difference to you.

If you can afford it, you should pay up now. If you can't please please explain this the buyer. He'll think you're trying him on.

To not pay now means you're waiting for something.... which you shouldn't be.

pay up now unfortunatley. it's not the buyers problem some thieving scrote has nicked the goods from the PO.

How was it stolen? Maybe the postman just didn't leave a card? This happened to me when I ordered some shampoo online. I ended up getting two lots of shampoo when I got a card behind the door after the second delivery and going to the depots collection desk lol.

Apparently undelivered recorded items are left locked in a box for another driver to pick up and the box was robbed.

If I refund though there is no incentive for the buyer to complete the claim form when RM send it?

yeah i'd refund him now so you don't tarnish your eBay rating (which is about as important as ones credit rating in this day and age....). Otherwise he'll just think you're having him bent over.

As been said, you have to refund him now :S
This isnt an issue with the seller =(
Its a dispute with you and RM.

the PO should reimburse you .

I've taken the method of emailing and explaining when a problem similar to this is going on and that I would refund once the claim has been resolved. If a package was just "lost" in mail.

Each specific circumstance varies though. If you are 100% positive the item was stolen and it has 100% nothing to do with the buyer then I would refund them now in this case, it's has 0% to do with them and they would be getting dragged into your problem for unfair reasons.

Its recorded delivery so not tracked other than to say it was a failed delivery.

The sorting office couldnt confirm it was def stolen and the Police would only confirm the crime number was in the correct format.

Its only £15 so will prob just refund.

I have asked him to raise a dispute in a couple of days when Ebay allows and then will refund him.

RM are just ****.

True, but you sent it recorded delievery, its value is below the £30 limit (default insurance amount, approx) and it hasn't been signed for which means you can claim from them. Don't worry.

You don't need the buyer for this, you have to make the claim.

I didn't think items that were robbed were covered by the insurance ? I saw a consumer program where a women lost her wedding ring when the RM van was robbed and they refused to pay as it's in the T&Cs

Who provided you with the crime number? if he did then I certainly wouldn't pay anything til I def. knew it was genuine.
