I have a customer who is using LogMeIn Pro. We are trying to get her PC started remotely from standby but with no joy.

Both the Host and the client has "wake up" enabled yet there is no option to Wake up remote PC as indicated in the user guide.

Her motherboard only supports S1 and S2 but surely this wouldn't be problem would it?

Has anyone else got this working at all?

Any tips?

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is the Switch On option found in the computers list:

Though I myself have found this to be very hit and miss. I usually don't bother anymore.

How old is her motherboard? Most modern motherboards should support S1-S4 suspend modes and can be turned on and off in the BIOS.

Do you have any more information such as operating system and weather it is a wired or wireless connection to the PC? I've had fun and games with WOL before, most wired NICs support WOL but not all wireless ones do. There are also some settings you need to check in device manager (and LogMeIn) for the NIC to get it to wake up the computer properly. Even when you get that far there are other issues to deal with such as getting through the router and the possibility that the remote IP address has changed (in the case of dynamic IP allocation).

Afaik logmein can't wake a computer from sleep. The client runs on the taget computer... Unless the it does so via wake on LAN that I've missed.

I run an xp machine headless on my work network with a couple of hard disks. The drives turn off after 20 minutes but the machine never sleeps

edit: found this on the logmein community forum

First Question - The answer to this is NO.* LogMeIn does not support sleep mode, hibernation, or Wake-on-LAN.* Unless they come out and support it at a later date, you will have to find another way to handle it, or stop the computers from going into those modes.

A few years old, only s1 and s2 are supported in the BIOS unless of course a BIOS update is required. I'm using the on-board NIC.

Logmein will wake my HTPC from sleep without a problem. It has a gigabyte board and in the BIOS there's an option to allow wake on lan. Sometimes it's called 'magic packet' too, depending on the BIOS.

I notice that in there is a setting on the LAN drivers under advanced tab, a property called "Wake on Settings" - this is set to OS controlled but there are the following options

Wake on Direct Packet
Wake on Magic & Directed
Wake on Magic Packet

Any ideas on these?

Huddy, WOL is notoriously hard to get working.

You have NIC drivers, OS drivers and sometimes BIOS drivers that usually conflict in these areas. Your best bet is to disable all interfering drivers and just enable it on the NIC if possible, but it seems to be a black art.

I've only ever really had it work succesfully with servers, never ever gotten my laptop to work remotely.

Got it working.

I found an option on the NVIDIA nForce Ethernet properites.

Under the Power Mangement tab there's an option that says "Only allow management stations to wake the computer"

This was ticked so i unticked it - hey presto.

I still don't get the power button though.. but the system is available when ins S1/S2.. Maybe this only appears if S3/S4 or S5 are used.
