so i am going to be buying a new computer but i need suggestions

i am thinking that im going with an core i5 750 based system, along with maybe a radeon 5870 or something and 8 gig of ram... or maybe i can swap out the cpu and mobo for an i7 930 based system but choose a radeon 5850 instead and still end up about the same price... but that is just me

what i meant by peripherals not included is that its just all the stuff inside the case, no monitors or keyboards or speakers or anything

so please do put together a spec for me to look at, which would fill up the 1500 pound budget... and if its not too much trouble, state what you think that spec is gonna be good for

Hi there, welcome to the OCUK forums :)

What will you be using the system for mainly?

Will you be needing an operating system as well as the hardware?

thanks :)
i can buy an operating system seperately
the priorities of my new system are only just to have a SSD and 8 gigs of ram, but also a fast enough cpu and video card for some gaming...

I would look at this:

Overclocked Core I7 920 bundle ~ £506

You could buy the parts separately for less but this is less hassle.

Seasonic X-750 Modular '80 Plus Gold Certified' 750W Power Supply ~ £141

2XHD5850 1GB ~ £474

Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB ~ £191

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB ~ £66

Zalman MS1000-HS1 Tower Case ~ £98

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-032-ZA&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

Pioneer DVR-S18L 22x DVD±RW SATA Labelflash ReWriter ~ £19

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-069-PO&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

The total comes to around £1495 excluding delivery.

Alternately get something cheaper and leave some money for upgrades.

good good, too many people are like "YAY12gig of ram is a must" when they use about 2 :P

wouldnt bother with 930, a 920 is equally capable.

one more thing that i forgot to mention just now... micro atx is preferred, so will probably be using core i5 because that seems to be where all the microatx mobos are

see anything wrong with this setup? will a 5850 or 5870 fit into an sff? will the sata 3gbps be able to keep up with the SSD?

What case will you be using? The 5850 and 5870 cards are relatively long and don't fit many full size atx cases.

This X58 motherboard is a great bit of kit and also micro ATX form factor.

As for the SSD and 3Gbps SATA, the SSD can't saturate this connection - so you will be fine. Also, its interface is SATAII - so a SATA3 mobo port won't help.

Well I move my pc roughly once a month, and it's currently sitting in a Cooler Master Cosmos RC1000 which isn't the most practical case in the world in a room with no space on the desk and less than half a meter between desk and bed :D

I'm wondering how easy/hard it would be to get a 5870 in that, I've been taking mine in and out of the Cosmos because it's started to bend the pci-e's and kill them off :D

With a budget of £1500 I'd be looking at a Core i7 system. If you want microATX board then get the rampage II GENE.

It's got a lot of features for a microATX board.

room is small and i'd be quite busy for the next few months, so i'd appreciate it if the only thing which comes through the door was a single box with a fully filled computer case inside...
i kind of wish that oc-uk would do a sff bundle with something like the rampage 2 gene inside it... maybe do one intel sff and one amd sff...
and probably with that 'da box 100' case with a big and powerful video card in it, or maybe with that Powercolor 5870 card in a normal sff case...
